Re: Just some MAGE MATH

#161
Rangers don't need a nerf, I think the update helped them a little bit but is not there quite yet.

This topic is intended to show the science of mages, not to say that classes need to be nerfed, there's enough of other people out there doin that already.

Now when I stated to post knowledgable replies, I really mean it, I want counter arguments, I want facts, I want math! Comments like "this is invalid" or "pointless" are not needed and I view as spectator comments. Please feel free to post your argument though, it will be read fully and replied to when possible.

Mages are OP with lots of sigils, so are any other class. People think mages are OP because they are able to get kills quickly and efficiently, they look at the damage. It is that factor they only take into account, not the energy cost, not the cool down, not the armor, only the damage. As a long term caster class player i have had experience with both the caster classes, druid for 19months and mage for about 12months. My mage at lvl 95 can hit 2k max for ice blast and ice shards. Shards at 32/25, ice blast 25/25, e shield 29/25, 15/25 ice lure and the rest in sacrifice. I run outta energy constantly with my shield up because im being hit 150+ auto minimum and 200+ for Poison DoT.

As you can see being a mage aint easy considering ice shards at 300+ energy each use, ice blast 250+ and e shield 950+ with my energy pool being 2.8k

Yes mages can be OP, but the majority of mages arnt.

Take into all the other factors of being a mage, not just the damage they do but also the cost and cool downs.

+1 to this topic. I really do hope that this feedback is noted and taken into consideration for anymore upcoming changes. This topic actually provides evidence and data to support a conclusion as opposed to the generic opinion misinterpreted as a fact.

Simple observation may lead to a hypothesis but that is as far as many posts go that usually frame a mage as op. There is (or should I say "was"?) so much more to a mage than just giant, unstoppable, and everlasting skills. That is not how mage skills work and Red proved that above.

+1 We can complain all we want but it is nice to see that someone has well thought out feedback for OneThumbMobile. Some of us rushed in earlier with outrage and complaints. It is nice to see a post that is clear and compelling with actual numbers.

Mr.E,
I realize length is an issue with this, but it is also a representation of a whole class and "hey OTM, ya should put back mages" wouldn't get me anywhere, whereas adding support to my cause and showing how the previous Mage was an equal Mage does, thus resulting in length

Says a warrior... Whos shatter skill hits well over 1k damage an not to mention if you put your blade on the line and went solid strength you can hit what? Oh ya 3.1k auto attacks!!! Tell me thats not overpowered?
And to the other comment if we "max" our energy boost we now have no skills to use all we can do is regain energy, but wait there would be no energy to regain because we wouldn't be using any!!!
Scince a mage is solid focus 900 focus give me roughly 5.6k energy... Ok? Now my skills energy shield ice shards, ice blast and ice atunment are maxed you know how much energy they cost each?
1000 energy, 330 energy, 360 energy, 200 energy.
Now being solid focus like you suggested means we will have 500 health plus our energy shield in this case mine now being 900 extra health, ok so lets say i want to attack a mob, i cast energy shield on myself, boom i just used 1k energy ehich leaves me with 4.5k energy i cast ice atunment now down to 4.3k energy then i attack the mob, i use ice lure(-60 energy) followed by an ice shard(-330 energy) the mob evaded my ice shard leaving me at 3.9k energy i cast ice blast (-360 energy) the mob also evades so im forced i use a second energy shield because i have done 0 damage to the mob, because they evade everything!!! (My ice skill is at 1600 so thats not the problem) so now im at 2.6k energy at this point i need to cast ice lure again( -60) then ice shards they hit him but after nerf only do 1k damage ( ice is very inconsistant, and apparently taking away 400 of a mobs resistance to ice isn't good enough) then i cast ice blast which uses more energy for less damage.
So you see after minutes if fighting ive used all 5.5k of my energy to kill one friken 2-3 star mob my level... Sounds like a problem? Dont worry theres more, and now with sigls not working as before and using all the enegy regain ive got it takes me minutes before i can even think about attacking another mob, while as warriors go in and kill like 10 straight before they even do a lick of damage to him because his armor is off the charts high, his attack is also very high( contrary to games description of a warrior which is warriors are meant to take lots of damage but are not able to deal that much out)

So do you see our problem?

Re: Why the aggressive mage nerf ?

Voldemort, firstly nice post.

I dont want to whinge but i spent AU$109.00 on plat, to get enough gold and stuff to go full ice (post update) to make the most effective DPS build.

Which was:

Level 162
Ice shards 50/35
Ice blast 35/35
E shield 26/35
Ice lure 40/35
Ice attunement 35/35
Focus 1180

AS OF TODAY I CANNOT KILL A TWO STAR ENEMY MY OWN LEVEL (EVEN USING TWO E-SHIELDS).

I tried 10 times, died 9 (most of them - no chance lol), and just killed it once (because i luckily evaded).

I dont know if i purchase more plat and get alt books and some fire items and try that?

makes me a bit sad :(

Thank you zuper. Excellent contribution.

If I spent 15k plat on a rogue I would be an utter god. I spent 15k plat on my mage and I'm a bum.

Problem? I'm not even going to grace that with an answer.

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?
