I've gotten boss kills many times, i think i know ice works. If you don't know the power of an ice mage dont say nonsense about them.

That's what dps means. Most damage in that fight gets the kill. Must have the most dps to do that

Damage is half of the dps equation. Burst damage is short term dps. Dps is damage per second, even if you are slow you can have more dps then fast attacks. As an example 60000 damage every 30 seconds(2000 dps) is better then 7000 damage every 4 seconds(1750 dps) even though its slower. So damage is a huge chunk of dps, no matter how you look at it, and ice can do more dps then fire even though it attacks slower.

i can do two fire bolts in the same time i can do one ice shards. my firebolt does more than half my ice shards. so obviously the firebolt is doing more damage.

Furyion, after the first 2 ice shards and ice blast you cast, that's the point where fire mage DPS will take over.

Fire mages on your server must be quite rubbish if they can't out DPS an ice mage on anything past a 20-30 second fight.

Just as comparison, my fire bolts and storms hit a regular 7-8k on mobs. I can cast multiple bolts before an ice mage can cast their skills again, and I doubt you can hit 14-16k on mobs consistently.

Edit: That's also me being generous, I hit up to 9k quite regularly.

If you really want to help your clan as a mage stop worrying about your personal damage output and trying to get the kill. Max your pierce lure and boss kills come much much faster, that is how mages become the hero of the day.

As an ice mage with 45 pierce lure I cannot use a third dps skill (frostbite - which is awesome when maxed) but I do occasionally still get the kill. The ice/fire argument is boss and player specific.

After doing the math, with 7-8k fire and 11-12k ice i can confirm what i said had been right. Fire is better long term dps like i said, it has slightly higher stable dps. Ice has big dps jumps in the fights(burst dmg), making it easier to get the kill with ice on quick bosses and leveling. Fire is better long term damage, ice is better short term damage. It's up to the players to decide what will benifit them more
