Ranged? Yes. and there my mage runs up to the mob smacking it with my wand! This is the only game I have ever played where the mage thinks his/her wand is a club and should be used to beat something over the head. You may as well have your ranger run up and smack the mob with his bow. It is the same principle. Yes a ranged fighter. however nerfed into being unable to be a ranged fighter, because ta-da! There the mage runs up and clubs stuff over the head!

Wands have never been melee.... Even if they were, you shouldn't be using mage's auto attack. The skills are ranged...

I recall this quite distinctly. But I am willing to go and test it again. I remember being annoyed. And yes ideally auto attack no, but for a little extra damage when my skills are recharging? i can not validate this for myself that I can not auto attack using a mage. My auto was pretty handy on WOW and NWN and DA. I think some of the older wands did this now that I think back... Had the mage run up and use it like a club. I am testing this tonight. I will let you guys know what I find.

Frozen meteoric wand gives 55 magic damage. Hardly extra dps when my skills do 3k+ damage each.

The dl wand is ranged but it's within the the point where a boss/mob targets you for a skill rendering it useless.

Played it to 120. Solo leveled most of the way and used no lux or sigils. Not the highest level but as high a level as most of the whiners on the forum

lol 120 on a mage is nothing it really doesnt show you how hard it is later and try using an ice build as this is about ice mage more than fire hence the mage nerf as spoken of is the ice blast nerf and e shield and honestly less about e shield and more about ice blast being pretty pathetic for how long it takes to cast and recast
also gear matters try not using any aggy gear as well

Got to 120 in meteoric and no aggy gear always been an ice mage. Im pimped out now with aggy stuff but i only started taking it after main mages stopped wanting
