Re: Mages STILL underpowered at high levels

Ok guys so I ran and optimized a freeze build. Not bad I only die 2/5 attempts :).

I will die no matter what if a freeze is resisted. Anything else that goes wrong I can recover. I still need my dual box druid, but ya, its doable now.

The only problem is it takes me twice as long to kill a guard than a warrior similar lvl and gear.

So obviously the freeze mage isn't the solution to the problem. While it makes it possible, I still die way more than warriors and it takes me twice as long to kill the mobs.

The build is as follows:

Stats:

5 str
5 dex
375(445) foc
320 vit

Skills:

30 bolt
28 shards
30 shield
27 freeze
15 lure fire
15 lure ice. (seems like they have 250 resist all)

Oh and I have 1400 sigils split relativley equally between health and energy...so ya it won't work with less lol.
Nerfed Mage ~140
Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

Copy this sig! :)

Your right he want full focus but I was also full str when we tried. 1.4k damage 3k attack best gear I can possibly get on my server I should win as he isn't at the full potential that he could be all his skills wasn't 50/35 which with the new rings it's possible to get them all close. You can reskill for a different style of play that's a mages gift. Yes energy come into issue. Then use the skills provided to help they have gotten much better. If you can't out dps a warrior something is wrong or you are no where near your full potential. No class apart from rangers can solo efficiently and mages are nest best with a few sigils and freeze. Rogues are possibly the hardest class to solo and yet we might not even have the top dps which is pretty bull IMO...

A funny thing happened with my Mage late last night. I was camping in the Fal-Deadroot grove, and a Deadroot Gem guy popped up. I clicked on the red guy, and I grouped the other two clanies we had in the area. I started my usual Cloak and Energy Shield routine. When I looked up, there was another Warrior who started his attack maybe 2 seconds before my first Fire Bolt hit the mob. We were both lvl 150. Well, within a few seconds, the Deadroot was casting at me. I ended up getting the kill and some Amethyst or something out of it. And yes, of course that Warrior cried KS, but why can't my preparation time be considered me "starting on the mob" time. And maybe he was the one who tried the KS? But for all I know that Warrior was a pure Tank build.

My point is a powerful DPSing Mage build can be done, but takes a lot of great expensive gear, Sigils, a good build, and smart play of the Mage class to out DPS the other classes. And currently I have a 28/35 Lure of Assassins skill (and can gear it higher). If it was a lvl 28 Ice Shards (which I have set at 1 currently for the good of the clan), I could smoke a decent amount of my fellow player's toons, on lower bosses.

But, while a 100% DPS Mage may benefit the Mage in the short run, a near max Lure of Assassins or Lure of Soldiers can have a HUGE impact on a very difficult mob or boss. I choose to be about 70% DPS and 30% support, and I enjoy this build. I can be an asset to a Wyvern group or an Aggagoth kill, but I can also kill many of the red boss Ph's solo for gold and what not.

So, I guess I'm saying I enjoy playing Mages because they are never a dull moment. We are very felxible, and I too very much enjoyed that "Mage Patch" a few months back. And the "Meele Mage Build" I believe is pretty darn powerful when paired with a Taunting Warrior partner in the group.

Sorry marco but I call ***, mages my level can solo wyverns, no way in hell that I can. Mages should not be the top dps class other than certain bosses, mages are SUPPORT and nuke damage, mages indirectly cause the most damage in a group with good lures, no way should they be able to do that and Out dps rogues, or rangers. The other big issue I have with mages is that they choose dps spells that suck a crap load of energy but refuse to use energy boost... Honestly if anyone should be complaining about energy it's Druids, they have to constantly cast , use a shitton of energy, but don't have the ability mages do to regain that energy.

LOL I always disagree with Piggy. What else is new.

I haven't gotten to that point yet, so I can't speak for that. I'm only level 132.
Mages should not be the top dps class other than certain bosses,
Who says we want to be top?? You ? where did you get that idea. NOT ONE SINGLE POST OF Mine or probably anybody else says that Mages should be number 1. What I am advocating is that Mages are at least on par with melee classes. Why are melee classes so afraid of that??
mages are SUPPORT and nuke damage
Enough with the idiotic support crap. Mages are not support. Even OTM's own F'ing description of mages doesn't say support.
mages indirectly cause the most damage in a group with good lures

And how many @$@#%@ times do I have to say this also. If you put points into lures, that's basically all you can do. You can't even attack a bumblebee and win.

And no one answered this question.

If you go full support mage, DO YOUR CLAN MATES GIVE FREELY TO THAT SUPPORT MAGE, GOLD, ELIX, POTS AND IDOLS, and outfit him with the best gear? Probably not. Because that "support" mage will rely on your good graces to level and get gold. If you want that mage to respec everytime, DO YOU GUYS PROVIDE THE ALT BOOKS? Again probably not! Because a lot of people on here only think about their own greedy little selves.
The other big issue I have with mages is that they choose dps spells that suck a crap load of energy but refuse to use energy boost
And which is another point that FLIES RIGHT OVER YOUR HEAD.

WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SKILL POINTS FOR THAT. This is because of how the lure system is implemented.
I've tried an energy boost build. Energy boost works great, but you take a major hit in damage spell output AND YOU CAN'T COMPENSATE WITH MELEE DAMAGE, (unless you have the super topend gear). And that's because again of how the idiotic lure system is used.
Honestly if anyone should be complaining about energy it's Druids, they have to constantly cast , use a shitton of energy, but don't have the ability mages do to regain that energy.
HAHAH Well that one I agree on.

Tony I must say your an idiot -.- you act like without lures mages are useless, don't get me wrong to reach ur full power u need lures but so does Everyother class for god sake! My damage reaches 1400 as I have said without fire and pirece lure I hit around an average of 600 with them both I hit around an average of 1200 so I'm not even maxed then. Which IMO sucks if they got no resist to my damage then why ent I hitting almost 1400 every time? So without lures I'm at about 40% of my damage mages without lures are at about 60% of maxed damage as all mobs fire and ice resist are usually a lot weaker then pirece. I use to have max sneak and hit about 1k damage when the damage on skill screen was 3k+. You need to become a better Mage. It's not that the class sucks (it's an expensive class) its just your mage.
