Armo, are you paying attention? This topic was not actually anything to do with any battle-mage. It was a rant by blackmamba telling us to do full caster. You are correct, it is not a build. The original post has nothing to do with anything battle-mage so your "topics name" point is irrelevant. If you would like a thread to discuss an actual battle-mage build feel free to make one, but this one is just a rant.

And your going off topic. The intentions of this post is open for intepretation. You may have seen this as a 'personal attack'. Others may see this as a serious thread. Who the heck are you to tell him to make his own thread to discuss a battle mage build while clearly this is the right topic for that.

Like I have said before, it is a weapon change, NOT a build change. If something is 900 dmg and 2000 attack and something is 40 dmg and 2000 attack, what would you choose? And it's not hurting dps as your solely doing it in downtime.

It is hurting your dps and this is why:

Due to the availibility of cooldown items, you no longer have to wait that long for cooldowns. In this short amount of time it's best to cast your buffs like eshield/lures.

What you propose is to swap alot pf gear within 2-3 seconds to do an auto atack. The dl wand has an attack speed of 3000, what means that it does damage every 3 seconds. So you can only do one auto between your skill hits. Due to your low attack, the chance that that auto actually lands is very low. And when it does it only deals 400 damage max if you have good damage gear.

So you have just done one auto before you have to swap your gear back. You have to delay your skill cast, because you were trying to do one auto. Every second that you delay your dps skill cast as a mage is a loss in dps. And autos cant make up for that.

But ur losing items that improve ur skills and u lose precious time to melee and skill as mages skills interrupt melee, so 90% of the time u wont melee, when u will melee 99.9% of the time u wont hit, and that 0.1% left that u will melee u will do 100-150 hit, while losing bonus to ur skills, so u will lose dps for a 150 hit with a big hope it'll proc.

I dont like when u just bring up idiotic theories, if u want to make ppl believe u it works, do it urself first. I dont advise something to be 100% correct unless I try it and confirm it myself first.

Criminal is right, if you try keeping auto-attack on, skills are sometimes delayed for some weird reason.

As I said, it's a whole lot of effort, for pretty much no gain. Plus there is the issue of being stuck on the spot after a mob dies due to auto-attack.

Pagga makes some good points. Anyone using a skull would be negatively affected. You lose the offhand skill which even though it has a long cooldown it does more damage than any melee will do. Lets say you equip that 200 offhand and dl wand you wont have more than 1k damage, IF you land that auto on a boss with 2k attack you will do a measly 100 dmg. Overall, a loss of dps for sure. Standing in aoe range increases your chance to die. You cant let sigils kick in. The negatives far outweigh the benefits here.

Btw, sometimes the wand and skills will have different range, or most of times, and that aint convenient.

The point is, meleeing with casting too is more dps then just casting, the question is if you are that fast though. It may not be the most practical idea, but you can't prove it wrong, because there's no way you can lose dps from meleeing during downtime, only gain it.
