Mage Guide for the average player coming soon...

Currently, I am a Lvl 120 Mage in Rhiannon. I am one of the top five mages on my main server. I am always getting asked to help other mages with their builds. Since there are many factors in building a mage, I am going to make a level by level guide. The guide will be geared towards the average player starting from level 1, who doesn't have money to buy platnuim or has access to luxury items at the begining.

There are many Mage guides on the forum; however, when I started out I was confused because most of the guides were geared towards players that were at high levels and already had sigils/lux items.

I have created a "noob" mage. The "noob" mage is not on my primary server so it doesn't interfere/conflict with my main character. My "noob's" name and server will be released at another time.

So to all the new mages that have a ton of questions, hopefully I will be able to help clear things up in my upcoming guide.

It depends what the mage wants to be...mostly i'd say for mage theres dps, buffer, hybrid...even a sort of tank(non-dps...energy shield user...etc.) I myself am half buffer, half dps. Its actually quite useful. Heres what I do in boss runs. Throw damage spells at it(occasionally healing or energy boosting players) then when my energy runs out, meditate and buff, and fill up on energy and so on.

Please bounce ideas off us while making the guide. Even though you have over 100 levels under your belt, so do we, and it is better to get thousands of levels of experience instead of just your own.

First of all, awesome, thanks. wish i'd had such a thing. :)
And tho I am a plat buyer, I think it is great that you set one up for avg players.

I agree that the pathways may diverge depending on what kind of mage one wants to become, but this may not matter so much at early levels.

I'm mostly a buffer/dps build, but will tank stonevale and lirs lower bosses when clan doesn't have a tank on, so I keep enough HP to manage that. But part of my flexibility there does depend on the use of some pricey gear.

Gah, I don't see why mages will waste soo much in vit, I mean keep it at 1500-2000, with an e-shield.

Mages armour are complete crap, when training with a lvl 96 warrior he could get more mobs per minute than me, even thought we were training on level 105 kelpies (and I have at least 50 sigils!) there has to be something done with the e-shield, either making it stronger, or increasing the time for it to re cast.

When training, do it in a big group. Lures are like damage multipliers. Not too helpful with a dps, but with a few, your indirect dps is greater than any one single person in your group. Ill make a post in general discussion sharing this idea. I wont put it under here because its more informative to all players so that it helps all level.

Yeh blaze :) as mentioned above, that's a support mage. Honestly, you'd be worthless soloing if you didn't have a buddy :). When I hit 130+ and I have no choice but to group with people, I'll become one seeing how its my only way to level, and it'd help in bosses.

But as a 105 people don't tend to group, so you gotta be able to solo, and that's pretty tough now a days, no to mention time consuming.
