I know we have been working our butts off talking about and offering suggestions for improving mages and making them a class that people can and want to level as much as other classes.

However, our feedback is pretty scattered throughout here, general discussion, and feedback forums.

Admin says OTM will look through this forum when thinking about changes so lets make it easier for them.

Use this topic to elicidate why mages are underrepresented (in how many people play them) in the game and especially high levels, and what could be done to improve the situation.

Also compare your experience playing/leveling your mage vs other classes


Broad or specific suggestions would be great.

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

Energy shield cooldown is too long.

Regen without plat is less viable for the mage than other classes.

Energy healing ability isn't strong enough.

DPS potential isn't good enough.

Need more ice damage spells, possibly add damage to freeze.

Mage need to be nerfed in PvP, mabye halve e-shields effectiveness in pvp.



Good things:

Energy shield is much more useable than before update 3

New lures are cool.
Nerfed Mage ~140
Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

From a high lvl mage.
Energy shield cooldown is too long.
yes it is
Regen without plat is less viable for the mage than other classes.
thats subjective

with the right gear and sigils it is
but you do need a lot of gold
DPS potential isn't good enough.
it is comparable but we need lures to match other classes, get rid of the lures

ice shards is fine, just don't make the cool down so long
freeze is useless

keep it the way it is
Good things:

Eshield helps because as a mage we can't put anything into dex

to get max damage one needs to max lures, other classes don't have to, so lose the lures.

Thanks Tony, while I don't agree with all your points I will let them stand for now to facilitate people sharing more feedback.

Add an main hand weapon that is actually useful to mages.

Also: FIX THE FROZEN WAND! The proc of bane spchance should also be used on spells such as fire bolt. I don't wanna sit there and throw 40 damage hits at a boss hoping for a 3 % proc of bane. I want to attack it normally like I would (as other class beside Druid does) and hope for a bane.
I will occasionly browse the forums, but for the most part im done.

The main problem with mages ? People who don't play as one :P
Seriously, my main complaint is about energy boost. As papi said, it should use the same formulas as nature's touch (in this case, a shorter cooldown would be most helpful, as it would allow mages to be both energy healers for druids and themselves, then for other classes if needed) or at the very least nature's embrace.
Otherwise, it's less urgent of a matter to get rid of lures. I must agree with other players, it allows more flexibility in mages' role. As long as it allows us to get in groups for bosses fights (since normal mobs don't need lures to be cast on them).
Energy shield... Lower cooldown, maybe not, but definitely energy cost should be reduced.
Skill damage... Yes, either lower cooldown for some skills since they can be (and are) evaded, or allow wand to do a bit more damage (around the same as druids', maybe).
