Cloak by a mile!

Umm...no...incinerate by a mile because cloak only works when the mob is attacking you. Incinerate is better because it does ALOT more damage

Why choose? I use both. I tried to use one or the other and put the remaining points into shards. I found that, at my level, incinerate would out damage shards during the same amount of time. By that I mean that the time it takes to cast shards and wait for the cooldown to cast shards again. Both had 15 points in when I tested this. I did not have any points into lure of ice.

Incinerate also helps more in group play especially if you're not the one taking damage.

Cloak is far better than incinerate in groups (including boss fights) precisely because one person is taking the lion's share of the damage. You cloak that person and they get a "benefit" from being hit. And you can benefit from cloak yourself when you're soloing. Bonus!

The only situation where incinerate is helpful is in boss fights, which naturally take longer. I found I never used incinerate while soloing or small groups simply because the fight didn't last long enough to waste the time to cast it and see small amounts of damage for a very short time.

cloak does more DPS per skillpoint so cloak. The only spell that comes close is frebolt. Incinerate is not as good.

This is coming from someone who wanted nothing to do with cloak, but had to move to it based on my testing.

Ummmm, I like both, although my Cloak is 23/25 and my incinerate is only 16/25.

Otherwise, they're both mages' main skills along with firebolt, iceshards, and E-Shield.

I just went back to using Cloak after testing Incinerate for a bout 3 weeks. I like that Cloak can be cast on others, and lasts a long time so I don't have to keep on top of it as much. Dps I guess is better as well. Works on everything hitting me. I missed the warm fuzzy Cloak of Death so!!!
