Sacrafice can also help if you have energy shield I did that for a bit, here's kinda how it worked for me up to level 80 ish :
Energy shield at 1
Sacrafice at 10
Energy boost as high as I can while still maxing firebolt and ice shards
Use energy boost, use energy shield, use Sacrafice (it uses your energy shield instead of taking health

I'm not a pro mage, but IMO if you want to be a mage that deals the highest damage, then you probably need to buy sigils, and buy/find some decent rings. My current build is all fire, I have maxed firebolt, cloak, incinerate, eshield, and high fire lure. Obviously, if I spent a lot of points in regen and/or sacrifice, then I wouldn’t be able to max many other offensive spells, and my damage dealt would be significantly less.

There just aren’t enough points to be able to do it all effectively. It isn’t really ideal, and this might be why to some extent that a lot of mages seem to go down the more support route (or a hybrid build).

Also, bear in mind, a lot of mages tend to purchase a lot of books of alt to switch between the two depending on the situation.

If you want to play support, then you don’t need sigils. I for one find the support build boring after a while, but each to their own. However, sometimes, I’ve noticed that in order to get accepted in a group (end game content), melee players request support mage only.

Therefore in summary:
Support mage = cheap to run
Offensive mage = expensive (lux, sigils, etc etc)

Hi there, Solid from danu here.

As a lvl 73 (will be 74) mage, I never bought any sigils of any kind (did buy plat though). The trick is to use eboost and sacrifice at the same time. I personally had eboost and sacri at 8, with a max shield, I never ran out of energy. The con for this is that you would most likely have to give up on ice shards, which I did due to the inconsistent dmg (sometimes my bolt hit higher lol).

Well, my 2 cents here, good luck and have fun!
