Re: To high lvled mages

I'm too lazy to do pictures, but here is what I use.

Str: 5
Dex: 5
Focus: 445 (1362)
Vit: 400

Ice Lure: 16/35
Fire Lure: 16/35
Fire Bolt: 40/35 (royal ring)
Ice Shards: 15/35 (royal ring, grand ring and Aggragoth bracelet)
Ice Blast: 35/35
Energy Shield: 45/35 (royal ring and Aggragoth bracelet)
Ice Aatunement: 35/35

In addition to the jewelry listed above I wear ancient wyrmbone armor, camo charm and sapphire talisman. Main hand is Void Grimoire of Frost. Off hand is Focus of the Mystic. I also have just over 600 energy sigils.

Please Note: I have 0 points in ice shards. All of the points come from jewelry.

Hope it helps.

Aegnus' build is kinda out of whack because he wants to utilize his rings. He would be much much better served if he dropped firebolt and fire lure and maxed shards fully, especially with ice attune maxed. Replace that bolt ring with a iceblast ring too. With your extra points invest into frostbite.

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

Thank you very much. Does this build let you solo? Also what level are you?
I am level 166, and yes I can solo. I usually hunt about 5 to 10 levels above my current level. I can do 1 and 2 star mobs easily, and 3 and 4 star mobs with difficulty...but I prefer to do those with a partner because soloing them is too slow.

While I appreciate Marcus' opinion that my build is out of whack, I also understand that there are as many styles to playing Mage as there are people playing it. Marcus prefers to melee, where I never turn my auto attack on. My build allows me to chain cast dmg without waiting for cool down. The build I currently have is the one I keep coming back too after trying about 15 different builds, including the one Marcus referred too with only Shards and Ice Blast. That build leaves me waiting too long on cool down to cast again.

Also, I am not "trying" to utilize my rings. I have other rings I could wear if I want, but I wear these so I can utilize ice shards since ice attunement only works with shards and blast.

Here is how a typical solo fight goes for me......Fire Bolt to pull (1.5k)' Fire Lure, Ice Lure, Fire Bolt (2.4k), Ice Blast (7k), Ice Shards (2.4k) by this time the mob is usually dead. If I need too I add Fire Bolt, Fire Bolt, Ice Shards, Fire Bolt, Ice Blast, Fire Bolt....repeat. (The values shown are on the higher end of my hits) The only down time I have is occasionally between fire bolts, which cools down super fast...that is why I use it. To me, playing a Mage is like being a boxer with a glass jaw. Fire Bolt is your jab, Ice Shards is your cross, and Ice Blast is the knock out blow. you need to hit them hard and hit them fast or you will be the one dead, not them.

But keep in mind, everyone has their own play style they like, and they will naturally fall into the build that suits them best.

I respect that. Have you tried a more balanced hybrid approach where:

Max firebolt
Max fireblast
Half max fire lure

Max shards
Max iceblast
Half max ice lure

No attunement. Because attunement really isn't huge on DPS when you calculate it.

That is an interesting idea Marcus, but I don't think 4 damage skills is efficient. With my current build all of my skills are either in a state of cool down, or a state of being cast. Taking into account casting time and cool down time, the build you suggest would mean I have a skill sitting there doing nothing, neither cooling down or casting, and that means it does nothing for me. I could maybe see this being a good boss build, but not good for my fast killing and leveling style.

Also, maxing 4 dmg skills and 1/2 maxing 2 lures will require 175 points if my math serves me. Not only do I not have 175 points, but it leaves no points for shield or any other skill I may want or need.

Lastly, it might be best to get this thread back on track. I believe the original poster requested high level mages to post their builds and equipment so he could get some ideas, not to debate one persons build. I understand and appreciate that you are trying to help me, but I like my build.

I know when I was a noob, these type of discussions were very valuable because you can see multiple perspectives as it relates directly to a specific topic.

I can do the math but my estimate is that the average cooldown if the skills I suggested is roughly 15 seconds. Divide that by 4 and your at roughly 3.5 sec of casting time for each skill. So if the casts are timed right there should be no waiting.

As you know for soloing with a mage the way to survive is to hit hard and fast, and I believe this will give a higher dps than the build you suggest.

I didn't notice your eshield.

For your build the simplest improvement would be to move points from ice attunement into ice shards. The simple fact is that ice shards all things considered has a higher combined DPS than ice attunement does.
