Take it from a retired mage...

Don't play one.

I fought and pleaded and worked my butt off on my mage. I've invested hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours into him. I'm around lvl 140. I really like mages in other games and really wanted to play one. Well I finally gave up.

They just suck in this game. Now I'm playing every other class and they are way better.

So don't waste your time and money, skip the mage in this game.

Sadly, I kinda agree. I'm basically holding back on leveling and buying plat until I see some reasonable changes. Not even in dps, just survivability among other things... On the bright side, there are "other things" out there for which to occupy time and have fun. Perhaps, if you wait, the problems we (all classes) have will one day be addressed and the fun will begin again.

If your goal is to be the most destructive force in the game , not only direct damage but indirect damage caused , Mage is the way to go .

1. un-soloable at levels above 100 without thousands of sigils; health and energy. Even with that extremley poor solo charecteristics. In a game (at least on my server) that doesn't have enough population to support reliable group play.

2. The class is basically regulated to lure monkey for the uber rich.

I'm pretty rich and still impossible to level because as a lure monkey noone really goes out of their way to group you and you can not even do the arena daily quest. The population just isn't dense enough to support this class, when their may be 100 players at any given time sprawled out between lvl 1 and 190. Plus all other classes really need only a druid to level with whereas a mage isn't needed.

This post is intended at new players, to which I think it is wise to advise them that this class will be unplayable to them. If they already have a multibox team of charecters they level, then sure a lure monkey would be a welcome addition. But not for normal play.

Mages get the kill on all bosses in my clan.

That is due to the faulty formula for defense, resist, and evasions for bosses versus mobs. The main point being made is that leveling or killing an add for a boss is a bit too difficult for a Mage and therefore takes away the fun from playing a Mage. Getting the kill for a boss is not everything, at least, not in my opinion.

v1 (guessing, I'm not v1 player): Rogue op, Mage suck.
v2: Rogue op, Mage suck.
v3: Rogue died, Mage op.
v4: Mage & ranger died, warrior op.
v5 (Predict if they kept nerfing): Warrior dies, Druid op.
v6 (If they continue nerfing): Everyone suck.

As you can see we can't balance from constant nerf and even if we do, we can't beat the stronger mobs, we need to BOOST the weak classes not NERF the strong ones.

Put the mage back to where it was when V4 was released, and boost all classes to mage level. When V4 came out, for me, the mage played like a dream – battling was exciting, he was snappy, casting constantly, and the action was fast paced. The action is now slow and boring, and with levelling now taking forever, battling has become arduous.

There is too much down time after killing even one mob, not enough skill points (for all classes) – we should be able to put enough skill points in the healing abilities etc to reduce the down time after each mob kill, but not disable our other skills making us unplayable. I think our natural energy and health regen should be increased - maybe natural energy regen faster for caster classes, and warriors get faster HP regen

Battling is the only thing to do in this game – why has OTM made this boring? Boost all classes and make the action fast paced and fun.

v5 (Predict if they kept nerfing): Warrior dies, Druid op.
Hey that's not a bad idea, I could easily get used to that ;)

All kidding aside, I've seen doc try solo. Normally goes attune, boost, shield, lure, shards, evade iceblast, wait 10 secs, evade, dead.

It's true, soloing is not easy once you're over level 100. And this is coming from a "rich" player loaded with regen jewelry. However, when in a group, a good mage is easily the most dominant player, dealing huge damage. Each class is important in this game for different reasons, and I know the guys I group with love having me around. Just like I love knowing my tank will take the damage, and my druid won't let me die. But yeah, if you don't have the luxury of group leveling, it becomes awfully tough to efficiently solo as a mage. I just finished full meteoric armor, and I still get cut through like paper from mobs at or slightly above my level.
