How do Lures work???

Let me start by saying I am a lvl 165 mage as my main so I am not a total Noob. That said I am going to ask what may seem like a stupid question but understanding the mechanics of Lures can make a big difference.

SOOOO....

Lures lower a MOBs resistance to particular attacks. Based on this (and many other games I have played) this increase your chances of doing your max potential damage to a MOB.

I have heard many people say that lures actually increase your max potential... in other words, if my skill lists 1000 as maximum damage they are claiming that a lure could allow that skill to do more than 1000 damage. I have not experienced this.

Again I ask... How do lures work. Do they simply increase your chances of doing more damage up your maximum? or do they do more and allow you to potentially go above.

From what you heard, this is correct, but to go into more detail about the lures is that their purpose is to lower elemental (and physical resistances) to increase damage to the indeed max potential. Many of the times you will be highly unlikely to hit your max hit on mobs, unless of course they are dummies or things of that sort. So, the easiest way and quickest way to kill not only mobs, but also bosses, is by using lures to get your highest possible damage and damage average.

So just to confirm...

I tap on Firebolt and it lists my max damage as 1000.

WITHOUT LURE I cast on 3* Mob and I do between 1-1000 damage. It is VERY unlikely that I will hit in the upper end of that range AND I will be more likely to get evades.

WITH LURE (assume MAX) I cast on 3* MOB and I do between 1-1000 damage. It is much more likely that I will hit in the higher range but I will NOT do more that 1000 damage. Also Evades will be significantly reduced.

Correct?

In one part this is indeed correct that lures do indeed significantly raise the range for which you will hit in your upper potential. Though I have yet to experience hits over the listed skill damage while doing several lix, so its beyond me still if they changed that in this update since it seemed I never saw 351 or higher damage from my cloak of fire when its listed max was 350. Hope this helps a little

Lures:
- Only decrease mob resis to at most 0, even if it does go negative, it's assumed as 0.

- You will never ever ever ever hit above ur descripted dmg, unless you have stuff like fire attune or other ways to boost fire magic, doing so would also increase actual maximum dmg (will not show up accurately in description, for ex. ur a lvl 1 mage with lvl 1 bolt with 4 +10 skill rings, though ur bolt dmg would obviously be OVER 9000!!!, but ur description still say it does 16 dmg), meaning you can NEVER hit above ur max dmg (it's called max dmg for a reason  ). Also due to dmg fluctuation it's impossible.

- Lures DO NOT decrease the chance for a mob to evade the corresponding skill, I had times when I get a lure on a mob and missed 4 bolts in a row.
