Why do mages have little to no armor?

When I am hit by a 1* or a 2* mob as I am solo leveling they hit from 200-300 damage on me. If a druid casts shield of bark on me which greatly boosts my armor the damage rate is usually from 75-150. I don't understand why mages have such low armor. It is super hard for me to level as I am constantly casting e shield to resist dying. Any other mages around my lvl or above have this problem. Any mages know a why to fix this? I am considering buying a 500k shield and using a few artifice rings to keep my energy leveled but im not sure if it's the smart thing to do. Any ideas?

Otm decided in there wisdom that because we hit so hard we didnt need any armour and then decided that because we hit so hard we needed to have our damage cut to bring it in line with other classes but the forgot to increase armour accordingly and because so many mages piled points into enegy shield to stay alive they increased the cost of that and reduced the amount it protects you from
Also in pvp they cut your damage in half aswell
Hope this helps

Many of us have asked this question for a long time. There is no answer as of yet.

Cause if you had more armor mages would have more weight less energy and they are good dps class and dont you see in every game or anything that mages wear thin robes not heavy plate

You aren't a mage I bet.

I would prefer wearing full frozen for warrior and loose 100 energy than wear mage's full frozen and win 100 energy.

I'm suggesting to the original poster to put some points in dext. I had 120 pts and it worked very well, I was dodging approx 15% of the time, sometimes more or less. Maybe put more than 120 pts, you may be able to go to 200 (higher lvl than me) but its a loss of focus/vit. If you are trying this, remove a little bit of your points in vit.
Though I rebirthed to put the points in focus back because I can now dual with my druid lvl 117 which helps a lot.

PS: Also used great solstice boots which gives 75 health/def and some evasions.

This game has class workings like this:

Warriors: All around good. Good armor, Good DPS, and Good HP.
Mages and Druids: Same Armor, Same DPS, Same Soloability (mages need a buff)
Rangers and Rogues: Same Armor, Similar DPS (rangers need a boost), Same soloability (rogues can survive just as well as rangers if done right)

Druids and Mages have very similar DPS. One is DOT DPS and the other is Nuke DPS. Druids are a little bit better IMO.

If a ranger maxs Sharpen, Steady, Rapid (or use haste elix), Sharp, with extras in Barbed, along with the same stats as the rogue competition, it would be a very close call. However most rangers prefer to use bolas and light heal instead of strict DPS.
