your advice please

hi everybody,
so i finally managed to save some 20k, and i can now buy an ancient sceptre or ancient shirt.
anybody have a suggestion which to buy? that is offence vs defence?
i'm currently using the pumpkin wand (dmsg 10+2), ancient shoes and gloves, and grieves (armor 124)
tried to play a bit with kinds of armore (magic vs normal) and didn't find it made a big difference....
