Hey all,
I have been reading tirelessly on what to use as a weapon for a mage. I am level 116 and currently use a Wizard's Thunder Dragonstaff with 40 regens for both health and energy. I seem to have no problem with damage when using staff and can solo quite well. So my question for you all is what is a good choice of weapon for a mage at my level and is a wand really worth going to? Thanks.
Re: Mage Weapons
#2What you need to look for in a wand is two things. The stats it gives, or the skill points it gives. Or both.
Wand damage is close to useless, so that shouldn't be a factor in choosing what wand to go for. A few wands you should look at are the wand of the grove and the wand of secrets. The former gives fire lure skill points as well as a bit of focus, whereas the latter gives points to ice shards (focus too I think?).
When you level up even more, you could look at purchasing an aggy grimoire which can give health, fire magic or ice magic with a lot of focus.

#3Armo first off I want to thank you
I will try and find a Master Wand of the Grove since I am a fire mage. As for the off-hand, I will need as much energy regen as I can, is the Focus of the seer or the Idol of Illusion worth obtaining? I see many mages with Focus of the seer, in your opinion, does the seer present more benefits than the Illusion, or neither?

Re: Mage Weapons
#4The idol of illusion is only there if you're really struggling with energy problems and want a bit more energy regen. The focus of the seer gives less energy regen but it gives a huge boost in focus. Not only does this focus give you more energy, but it also makes all your spells stronger, which is why you'd find 99% of mages using focus of the seer over the idol of illusion.
Edit: Idol of illusion does also give some evasions and resists, but IMO more focus is a much larger advantage.

Re: Mage Weapons
#5yup armos pretty much covered everything
most people would choose the focus of the seer over the idol of illusion because the focus provides more energy
only over a long period of the time will the regen of the idol of illusion be able to surpass the energy provided by the focus of the seer
wands...pretty much all of their damages suck
look at the stats and bonuses

#6Thanks for the great tips!
I am farming at the moment for the masters wand of grove, been at the pit for a few hours killing non stop and no luck. I understand that i wont find it over night, but do either of you have any pointers that could increase my chances?

Re: Mage Weapons
#7The wand only has one spawn point, and it is located on the left hand side of the 'druid pit' (when entering and facing falgren). Not exactly sure which one it is, but I have killed once or twice.
Remember that there's a chance that you'd only get a weapon shard, or apprentice wand. Better off shouting that you're buying the master wand, unless you're levelling on the druids/find the gold drops worth your time.
