I'm a ice mage with yule focus ammy and I'm wondering if I should drop my energy shield for frostbite since I have a 500 dmg shield from ammy

NEVER! EVER! EVER! EVER! EVER! EVER!
Frost bite is not worth putting skill points into just keep it into your shield because its better, you'll be able to sustain more damage.

idk if this is off topic but in what the ice mage is better than the fire mage( just wondering, no offense bro)

Better for sigil regeneration (longer cool downs), higher hits, as well as favourable drops.

USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

1-Frostbite hits on cast at several thousand damage at high level!

2-Frostbite lasts 30 seconds doing almost as much damage as ice shards with attunement applied once the 30 seconds is over!

3-You wont be able to use either of your sheilds in combat which makes frostbite a much better option!

Fire is better dps, and can deal better slightly better damage in long fights, but ice is better pvp and better damage in short fights.

Ice has good solobility which in my opinion is better than fire.

I am an ice mage myself and would not ever change to fire.

Most mobs die with my shards and blast:s but there's just those few who evade it So I needed an extra skill to hit em.-. Welp I'll try out frostbite

For lvling i dont recommend frostbite or inc, since mobs have much lower health than bosses and die fast u will want to nuke them.
My best suggestions :

1. Firebolt (+lvl 1 fire lure), its much better for ice builds than ice shards is for fire builds, fast which covers for how weak it is without attune+high lure.
2. Lvl in groups, mostly as an ice mage i think groups are important, that way the dps doesnt stop flowing (i recommend rogue, then u can either dump pts in assassins lure or use whatever skill u prefer).

The new 1.5m focus ammys skill of poison bolt works wonders on those pesky mobs that dont die after 2 skill attacks. I plan on adding ice shards as my extra skill to smack a mob with if i dont get that 1-2 hit kill i was looking for. Seeing as you are an ice mage i always recommend maxing to 50 ice shards and ice blast. Attune should be as close to 50 as you can get but its kind of annoying atm since there is a lack of attunement gear and using 2 ring slots to achieve 49 attune may not be the best alternative. You lure should be at least half maxed at all times but i prefer to have a bit more than that. Some end game mages run 40 lures which helps for bossing and pvp. For your 5th skill u can do several things: eshield, freeze, frostbite, eboost. Each are great for an ice mage and have different uses for different situations. I personally never recommended being a hybrid, but with the new charms from the spider it is a bit more plausible.
