Actually, it says to hate gays in the Old Testament and in the New Testament Timothy 3:16 says:

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Therefore, the bible would in fact promote all of the things society most despises today.

Where exactly does the bible make it clear to NOT follow the Old Testament? It would seem that the above quote makes it clear that the entirety of the bible should be supported and carried out which means that if you do in fact find where it says not to follow the Old Testament, you would only further the point that the bible has contradictions that make it unreliable.

I'm still unclear as to the logical reasoning of keeping the 10 commandments but throwing out the rest of the old testament.

Sounds more like people just made it up with no actual basis in scripture. Nowhere in the new testament does it say keep the 10 commandments but throw out the rest.

Pretty funny that you think it is the work of an all powerful all knowing all seeing god but you can pick out the good stuff and throw out the stuff you don't like.

Ok, vraelen, You actually mad e me think for a minute with that verse. But I don't see how that promotes immoral activities. Also, where does it say to hate gays in the Old or New Testament? But anyway, back to your statement that the Bible states that the entire thing can be used. What you are missing is the fact that though the consequences are gone in the New Testament(well there are some consequences; just different ones), the principles are the same. So we aren't throwing out the rest of the Bible(well we do not have the Sabbath or things like that, those were laws for the nation of Israel.). We just have different consequences for the wrong doing. Maybe thats a better way to word it. I dunno if it is, but at least I tried to make you understand. I don't pick and choose if I did, I most likely would not be standing here arguing with you. I can try and find the specific verse that says that the old law is finished( or something like that); don't know it off the top of my head( maybe on the bottom of my head? Hmm ill look. Nope not there either.)
Psalm 46:10 He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

The interpretation has changed but the instruction is still there, as clear as day.

Instruction to hate and kill gays in Old Testament:
Leviticus 20:13: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

More contradictions:

Romans 10:13
Everyone who calls on the name of The Lord will be saved

Matthew 7:21
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Acts 2:39
The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.
[Basically, only those chosen will be saved...]

Did it say to hate gays in that verse? I don't think so. Maybe i need to read it again. (Havent forgotten ur other comment; already have an answer roughly thought out. But debunking supposed Biblical contradictions takes a bit more time than I have). Also I never said anything about interpretation. Death is not the consequence for being gay anymore(well unless the government says it is, which it doesn't). So please stop beating that dead horse.

As is the way of the bible, lots of Christians have the idea of "I will skip pages 2,4 and 7. The rest are ok for now, I may have a problem with 11."

There is no consequence for being gay... Except maybe a few west borough assholes giving you grief.

Technically it dosent say to hate them. Just that they are an abomination and have done a horrible act and true followers of Jesus should bash thier skulls in (or kill them in some way).

I still think of jack Nicholson every time from the shinning "where are you? Come on out! I'm not gonna hurt you! I'm just gonna bash your brains in!! Bash them right the f*** in!!!!"

More contradictions:

Romans 10:13
Everyone who calls on the name of The Lord will be saved
Name in this verse is not the value you are thinking of. Name in this verse represents the attributes of God, not his actual name. If you praying to only the name God, you are praying to nothing.

Matthew 7:21
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
This is a literal name of God. This is the name many will call upon on Judgement Day.

Acts 2:39
The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.

That is your interpretation of it, unless there is an index and unless st Constantine made a website called "whatthatbibleversemeans.com" there is no way of determining the true meaning

Remember, these weren't just random people killing gays, killing homosexuals was what the Israelites were commanded to do back then. Why? Because back then it was the holy land. Practicing homosexuality was and still is a sin. People were punished for various sins as they are now, but usually in harsher ways. The lust to be gay is not a sin, but when one gives in to that lust, it becomes one.
