Wether I am in game or real life I always enjoy debating over points such as religion and politics. While it may get heated as long as both parties respect each other a 'no hard feelings' etiquette is usually taken by me regardless of an opposing persons views. While I may judge someone for being republican or democrat that doesn't make me unable to be friends or friendly with both and often knowing people with opposing views makes for really interesting conversation.

Could just be me, I mean Law Students you know how we are with debates, why else did we get into Law? Lmao.

Some people just can't handle cold hard facts and that makes them feel stupid because they are wrong..... which is why I feel like I can't talk politics in the game lol but my fb feed thooooo lol

My general feelings on that is to just keep in either in whisper, or group chat (or in tavern or the tower or some other unused place). It's great to debate on issues like politics with other people, but don't force others to listen to it if they don't want to. ;)

The majority of people acquired the majority of their beliefs without the need for facts or critical thinking. This isn't necessarily a bad thing in itself, but obviously leads to serious discrepencies in evaluating reality. The further ones perception is from actual reality the poorer the outcomes of intended effort to fix problems tend to be for that person because they don't know what's actually real or what's best for themselves.

Needless to say if facts and critical reasoning didn't get them there it's quite unlikely to get them out. Hence the unlimited yammering and entrenched masses. Really there isn't anything that should be beyond criticism or fact checking. Not allowing truth and reason in may feel good sometimes, but it's bad in the long term.

the US government(and by extension state and local governments) cannot.
Although lets be honest, they and all governments do it anyway. Freedom of the press/speech is the biggest lie since "I did not have sexual relations with that woman".
The Supreme Court has consistently ruled that the rights spelled out in the constitution are not absolute. The most famous example of course is the opinion of justice Holmes basically saying you cannot yell fire in a crowded theater.

It's interesting as America is one of the least speech restricted countries.

Libel and slander have always been unprotected speech in America. Your rights end where others begin. I would love for Jenny Mcarthy to be jailed for all the harm her lies have caused but the inadvertent loss of freedom for all is probably worse.

It's interesting to compare people's views on this as Europeans are much more restricted. Heck if we locked up everyone who denied the holocaust in America the gdp would be mostly just prisons.

Really its that common? I know some of the more outspoken holocaust deniers actually get their visa's denied when they travel to Australia as they are not welcome here as they shouldn't be.

Yes, it is illegal (as in you are actually breaking a law) throughout most of Europe to deny the holocaust or mass tragedy/crimes in general. Its a sore subject because of the scope of the tragedy, to deny it happened goes beyond just being rude, even beyond just being a basic bigot, it is extremely inflammatory and insensitive. Not sure how you can explain away the literal mountains of human remains that still exist to this day but some people are so far removed from reality I'm sure its some convoluted conspiracy. To my knowledge not many people have been imprisoned.

more info is available on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laws_agai ... ust_denial

It is interesting to this thread because free speech really should have limits, its a cultural and somewhat subjective cutoff point.

Im all for debates on religions, politics and so on, but the players on forums have shown on 4-6 different religion debate threads that it cannot be civil here.
