Once upon a time in Celtic Heroes there was a
Man. His name was Lámhfhada but his friends just called him Lugh. He was very skilled with a bow or sling. At young age, he already hunted squirrels and other small animals. He was called Macnia which means 'boy hero'
He was a good friend of the celtic god Lugus.
Lugus was the god of the forest. On a hot day in the late summer, Lugh asked Lugus about his tasks. Lugus said;
'My tasks are defending the forest and it's creatures.
They need someone to watch over them. Without me, the squirrels wouldn't be able to gather their food for the winter, the bears wouldn't find a good place to spend their winters.' 'But Lugus' said Lugh. 'I hunt all those animals. Isn't that wrong of me?' Lugus laughed. 'No it isn't, my young friend.' 'But why?' asked Lugh. 'It's wrong to kill your fellow creatures of god isn't it?' Lugus' grin changed into a face which Lugh never saw before. It wasn't sad or angry. It looked empty. 'Lugh' said Lugus 'Do you believe in a god?' 'of course I do.' Answered he.
Lugus didn't say anything back. He asked Lugh if he shouldn't continue hunting. 'Sure' said Lugh. He took his bow and disappeared between the trees.
Lugh grew up to a strong and healthy man. He found a wife and they lived happily ever after. He went hunting with Lugus every day until, at a sunny, but cold day, Lugus didn't reply when Lugh knocked on his door.
'Where would he be?' Thought Lugh. He searched everywhere. In Lugus' house, at his favorite place near the beach, where Lugus would sit down and play on his panflute and in the woods. But he didn't find him.
The whole village went looking for their beloved Lugus.
Then, after a few days. They found him sitting on the edge of a lake nearby. Lugh ran to him and shouted where he had been all the time. But just when he reached Lugus, he disappeared. Gone, nothing but the rock where Lugus had been sitting was there. Sad and depressed, Lugh went back to the village.
That night, he had a vision. He saw Lugus standing near a windmill. He waved to Lugh.
Where would that be? Lugh ran to the village's wisest man and asked it. 'Ah young lad' said the wise man 'that is far away from here, to the southwest. They call that place Stonevale'
A couple of days later, Lugh bags were packed and his journey to the far lands of Stonevale could begin.
He climbed mountains and crossed lakes and finally he reached his destination. When he arrived, he saw two man arguing. 'What's happening?' asked Lugh.
'They are arguing about who's the best archer.' said a stranger
Lugh walked inbetween them and stretched his arms.
'Stop fighting', he said. The two men stood still and for a moment, there was an awful silence. After some seconds, one of the two said that they both were formidable archers but that they couldn't find out who was the best. 'I am' said Lugh and the two man began laughing. 'I will prove it' said Lugh. 'With the assistance of the Celtic god Lugus, I will shoot an arrow so high, that it will fall down when the winter is over.'
He took an arrow and readied his bow.
He let the string of the bow go and Woosh! The arrow flew up so high that they couldn't even see it anymore.
Since the problem was now solved, Lugh decided to stay and when Spring began, rumours of an unidentified flying object landing near the waters of Shalemont Ravine spread. In a dream, Lugus told Lugh that only true gods could be able to perform something like that. Lugh never woke up from that dream but from then on, he could live as a god just like his friend Lugus.
How his friend died never became really clear but all that we know is that it was something with a wrong aimed arrow meant for a squirrel.
