It's really sad seeing the amount of misguided people here. I must say I completely support Uzi on this and also think homosexuality is wrong. Call me old-fashioned all you want but it seems all morality is going to **** these days. People are becoming as stupid as animals and willing to take anything the media feeds them (like getting out of the so-called "dark age" where everyone acted as normal people [not humping everything that moves and saying that's normal and they were "born this way", and they should be accepted and allowed to do it because you see, they have rights] and support it, without even questioning it.

Marriage should be between a man and a woman ONLY, in a God-approved union. If it isnt, it is not marriage and shouldn't be even called marriage. I am NOT homophobic and NOT judging anyone. I am against the sin, not the sinner. Lots of people are too ignorant to realize that and always start ranting about judging on these type of posts. Yes, I know alot of people (even Christians) are quick to judge even though they are no better. That is not right and I really try not to judge but it's hard because every person is created like that.

If there would be a true separation of church and state, the government wouldn't be able to dictate what the church can and can't do.

One more thing. Please don't try to quote the Bible when you have no idea how to understand it. [Example: If you truly do what the Bible tells you, you shouldn't eat pork. This commandment is from the Old Testament and doesn't apply today, that's what the New Testament is for.]

Ps: I am not Christian, there is a big difference between being believing the Bible and actually being a Christian. Sorry for the confusing post.

Okay, I have some points for this.
1. Marriage isn't Christian. Various other religions have some form of marriage. It may be called something else elsewhere, but because we live in America and speak English, it's called marriage. Be it Hinduism or Buddhism or Islam.
2. The old testament does apply today, if you're Jewish.
3. Much of Christianity does not condemn homosexuality, but homosexual acts. Like you said, hate the sin, not the sinner. However, some denominations actually condone gay marriage, and some even bless gay marriages.
4. The separation of church and state is a misleading phrase. That makes it sound like Christianity is the only religion in the US worth mentioning. The government allows the practice of all religions. It does not give taxes to religious organizations. What the church can not do, other religions are forbidden as well.

I stayed off this post for about a week and have come to only one conclusion. You can explain something to someone, but you can't make them understand. I am going to be extremely blunt here and bring everyone back to the main subject of this topic (you can go argue your religious opinions elsewhere). The topic of this thread was: should homosexual couples be given the same rights as heterosexual couples? The answer (which is irrefutable):

1. The United States Government offers benefits to "married" couples.
2. The Constitution NEVER says Christianity is the sole religion of the United States ("God" is referenced, but not identified as Christian God).
3. The United States Government identifies and accepts other religions other than Christianity.
4. "Marriage" exists in other forms of religion other than Christianity.
5. Ergo, the United States Government must LEGALLY accept all forms of marriage of all religious institutes it identifies and accepts.
6. Therefore, it is illegal to deny benefits to couples who are defined to be "married" by a religious institute.

Bottom line, end of story, it is unconstitutional to deny homosexual couples marriage benefits if they are "married" in an accepted religious institute according to the separation of church and state.

Put your personal beliefs aside and read the constitution verbatim. It is clear cut. I don't care if you do not like gays and lesbians because you think they are gross. I don't care if your religion frowns upon it. I don't care if you think it is a sin or not. The Constitution is what it is. You cannot pick and choose which laws to follow because certain ones better serve you. Either you accept our governing documents for what they are or you raise the bigger question that they need to be changed.

But alas, I can explain it to certain people, but I can't make them understand.

I'm talking about modern day. Not when they were following Jesus, they had and followed the bible at that time, but strayed from it. They now have the Torah I believe, which has many different beliefs from christianity.

Ancient days, Modern days... nothing has changed. The Bible is the Bible. What is called the Bible in Judaism is what Christians call the Old Testament... What is called the Bible in Christianity is the Old and New Testament.

They are both the Bible.

There is no debating this fact.

So to say that the "Jews don"t have the Bible," as you said before.... is foolishly wrong. It isn't inaccurate; it isn't a slight mistake..... it is 100%, without a doubt, wrong.

Btw, you obviously have absolutely no understanding of the Torah, nor the Bible as a whole... Uzi not once did I mention the Bible. I called it the Old Testament, which is approximately the same as the Torah, with a few differences. Sometimes people refer to the Torah as the Old Testament. You do realize the Torah is the five books of Moses, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Which is part of the bible. And I did not say you hate sinners, I said exactly what you said. Although I'm sure there are denominations that blame the sinner as well.

Similar to my original entry into this entire mess of a thread, it was elegant, and poignant.

To be perfectly honest, it seems that we should both bow out of this chat.

Like I originally said in my OP, talking about religion is pointless.

The unfortunate fact is that some people feel that this and that have to do with each other... when in fact they do not.
