Ok, so let me create a new example:
living in america, looking at the stats above, it looks like at some point in my life theres a decent chance that I will be attacked, mugged, whatever.
If/when that happens, I want a gun.
If I have a gun when this happens, theres a pretty good chance that the crook will decide to run away. and if he doesnt, theres a good chance that he will be wounded or killed. either way, i stand a good chance of keeping my life/my stuff.
If I don't have a gun, the crook has a much better chance. If he has a gun, he has a REALLY good chance. if he doesnt have a gun, then he still has a pretty good chance.
So basically, if I have a gun, chances are I'll stop him.
If I dont, chances are he'll kill me/take my stuff.
thats one crime that was prevented by the "good guy" having a gun.

Awesome! And what's wrong with making it difficult to obtain a weapon legally ? Hawk you seem to be missing the point , nobody wants to take guns from you just make it safer . The person in this scenario would have a much better chance to defend themselves if they had to go to mandatory weapon care training , and how would extensive background checks stop this person from defending themselves ?

I agree totally with what you're saying. Backround checks arent gonna hurt the good guys at all. and training is always a good thing(though im not sure whether it should be mandatory...) but restricting the TYPE of guns owned is going to help the criminals. banning magazines over a certain size only makes us weaker, and the criminals stronger. so basically I completely agree with what you are saying on backround checks and training. But banning assault rifles and large magazines will hurt us, and help the criminals.

I personally prefer a 12 guage, but thats just me . The point is, by banning certain guns or magazines, you are restricting civilians, but arent even touching criminals.

I do not believe this statement is correct entirely .

You realize anyone can be a criminal right? Anyone can be spurred to commit a crime. This isnt the prohibition era where cities where run by mobs, nor will it be if they restrict guns. Maybe if they take away guns like alcohol, mobs could form, but they aren't suggesting that. Second off, the local gangs don't use assault rifles. So guns laws won't effect them to a big degree. What they are hoping to do is stop the ordinary civilians who go nuts and shoot a great amount of people with the guns they legally obtained.

I believe that as removing guns from the populace will not work in the current state of America, that the type of guns available needs to be better regulated. IMO, anything larger than a hand gun should have to be separately registered for hunting. Hand guns should also require a license and training/safety course to be able to purchase. Background checks are a must, as well as taking circumstances into consideration. Getting a lethal weapon should be by no means easy. You should have to be properly prepared and informed. Concealed weapons on the person is a whole separate issue in my opinion, as I feel it allows access to crime, but it is less important than regulating purchase

First of all, isn't there some sort of something in the constitution that says,"right to bare arms"?

Buying a gun is expensive, don't you need actual money to get one of those?

I like the shot guns because if someone with a gun comes to your home and they hear that sound of a shotgun being loaded it fills them with terror.
