Re: Do you think the U.S.A. needs stricter gun laws?

Canadian gun laws seem similar to Australia then, we can get hunting guns liscenced. And we can have handguns liscenced if we go though a month or two of police checks and such. But you can't take it out of your house, or have it loaded in your house.

Yeah I guess its pretty similar, I just started researching the Australian gun laws and it seems that we have to buy a permit, then get a license for the gun with regular check-ups from local authority for a period of time. Our gun laws are so strict we are not allowed to acquire Airsoft (Pressurized air guns/BB Guns) in Australia. They are completly banned.

Living on a farm it is important to have guns. In my area of the the U.S. we have a coyote issue and we use guns to protect our animals. We also love to hunt and target shoot. It's important to understand that guns are more of a TOOL not a WEAPON to some. I was taught to shoot when I was 5 years old. That also included how to properly hold and clean the gun. I enjoy the privilege of owning a gun, but I have never forgotten the responsibility that comes with it. I also know I wouldn't think twice if I had to use it to protect someone I loved. Stricter gun laws do nothing to combat the on going crime war, just limits the ability of civil citizens of their rights. Just my two cents worth.

wuts the point then?
Hehe, there is lots of point. Someone comes into your house wielding a knife, you wake up in the middle of the night notice some lights are on in your house. Grab your UNLOADED gun and threaten to shoot him/her. The intruder will probably soil themself and run.

In the heat of the moment you don't think, you act. If someone runs up to you with a gun and says give me your money do you think you will even question is the gun even loaded? Probably not, because in the heat of the moment your brain thinks quickly only analizing two scenarios which in this situation will be... Give them the money, or get shot. You brain won't even question if the gun was loaded or not until a few seconds/minutes after the intial threat which is often after they have robbed you or shot you.

yes but if they know they're in australia, they know their own country's laws, so they know that the gun isn't loaded

Would you question that if a gun is held right in front of your face? I sure wouldn't, I don't know anyone that would, I know some people may say "Yeah I would!" But clearly they have never experienced heat in the moment.

And everywhere in the world has law breakers! Iam sure many people in the world that have guns have atlease 1 bullet in the chamber if not they probably have a loaded mag close to hand.

Come on people just admit that if guns were not allowed in your stupid country there would not be so many murders a year.
That is what was said to the Germans just before Hitler took over.
FYI Hitler did'n't "take over" he was elected by the people of Germany.
