Its where all services such as healthcare are paid for through taxes. The entire country is responsible for every individual. Its "social"

Ohh i see. Dont think itll happen in america. The majority of the country has a greedy mindset.

One argument people make is that people like bill gates worked hard for his money and shouldnt be taxed for working hard, he probably hires someone to clean the entire mansion, are you saying they dont work hard? People mock India for its caste system, but the social structure isnt too different, it may be a big easier to move up/down the pyramid, but some people are born in rich families, which gives access to better schooling, while some are born to poor families who dont have that access.

Just because someone is rich doesnt mean they work hard, it can be luck that plays a role ill give 2 examples, a really rare, unrealistic, heavy emphasis example, and an everyday kind of example.

Ex 1. A guy buys a lottery ticket and wins 100 million dollars, he buys it the next week, and wins the same amount again, he didnt really work hard for that money

Ex 2. Some people are born with many talent, this gives them an advantage over others, and can leas to riches, they may work hard BUT some people working just as hard may not be able to gain riches the same way

We dont say he shouldn't be taxed, and the person that cleans his house works hard too. What we are saying is he shouldn't be taxed MORE then other people just because he is successful.

I agree dont tax individuals more

University used to be free in the UK until 1998, where the cost was raised to £1,000 per year, although 1/3 of students still received free education.

In 2005, almost all universities raised fees to £3,000 per year.

They are now £9,000 per year maximum. Unfortunately I'm going to be in a lot of debt.

Scotland's universities remain free for its nationals, however!

Im at UK and uni prices are bloody stupid, they keep saying education is the way forward when its just putting people in debt

@solum not talking dictatorship. I believe it is the responsibility of the govt to take care of the people. That it is on society to make sure all people have education, healthcare, and equal opportunity.

Kind of off on a tangeant but i believe big corporations need to be made more responsible and taxed more. Small independant business should be taxed less in order to encourage growth within a coubtry to avoid reliance on other countries

I know we aren't talking dictatorship. It is socialism we are talking about. In the past it was the duty of the community(or the church) to take care of those in need. If we weren't so dependent on the government, it might get back to that, which is a much better system. Also, if the government stopped supporting us, it would encourage more people to get jobs(people who could get jobs, but just choose not to). It might also stop the flood of illegal immigrents. I do agree that there should be less taxes. That is very true as the current system destroys new businesses. However, I don't agree the big corporations should be taxed more. Think about it. Bill Gates worked hard for his money. Just because he worked hard to get a lot of money doesn't mean he should be taxed more than the average person.

Bill gates isnt rich anymore... He gave it away to help people in Africa. He has a goal to eradicate polio by 2020

Also, in my experience people are against universal healthcare if they are wealthy enough to afford it or have never been in the position of needing healthcare you cannot afford. In my opinion it is the responsibility of society to take care of those who cant afford or are unable to care for themselves

But people such as a lot of Americans (dont worry in American) just don't like the way of being forced. You got no idea how much I hate hearing my parents complain about being forced to pay for others healthcare, and as much as I'd like to admit I'm wrong, they are right. Except for the fact that most of the time they don't do it at will anyway and should, but it shouldn't be forced.

Actually public healthcare tends to be better than private, health shouldnt be an industry like it is in america, the reason public is better is because america benefits from you being healthy, so its in their best interests to get you to health, however, its the best interests of private companies to keep you sick, so they can keep racking in the big bucks

They should have to pay taxes at the same rate as everyone else. If the more successful you are the more your going to get taxed then why would anyone want to be successful. Also now over 50% of America says that Romney was the better choice over Obama and that Obama is the worst president so far by presidential ratings.

So you think the poor man should be taxed as the rich man is? Have you seen the scale of wealth in america? What are they going to do with that money. Better spent on healthcare, education. Or other things than it being spent on the new bugatti

Bill gates donated a TON of money to charity. However he is still one of the richest people in the world.
