Well there has been some rational discussion which is nice to hear. And yes Uzi you can be a troll sometimes.

There are ways to prevent gun accidents. You can actually keep a loaded gun in the house and have it be safe. You can buy a small gun safe to put next to your bed with a hand print lock so you can open it in the dark. Very kid safe, no trigger locks needed, no fumbling in the dark.

Even in countries with strict gun laws there are murders. Removing guns does not prevent crime. Violent people will just find another way to do it. I live in Oklahoma. Timothy McVay did a great job with a rider truck and fertilizer. I am a huge gun rights guy but I recognize oversight needs to be in place. So, when I am king this is what will happen:

Every drivers license will also have a gun authorization defining what type of gun an individual is legally allowed to purchase.
The way to get the different authorizations will be via required training classes offered by registered training centers (I expect a large NRA participation since they are strong on safety and education)
To purchase any gun would require showing your ID. Private sellers would also need to see the ID and make a copy of it for their own protection to show they were not irresponsible and sold it to the wrong person.
The only background checks required would be for initial licensing and renewal.
So instead of focusing on registering the gun you will be registering the individuals. I don't care how many they own if they themselves are responsible.
If someone commits a crime and loses their gun rights, then that is a criminal enforcement issue which we already do with convicts.

I believe they should make a fun licence hard to get as a driver's licence, but to say that owning the right to drive also comes with the right to own a certain type of gun is a bit much, 1 licence for both but make seperate licenses for them, but make it the same difficulty to get. Honestly, that is the only thing I read from the post which is why im replying to it, but thats my point on it.

I realize that if gun laws are made that criminals can pretty much easily obtain them ilegally. But what about the noncriminals who live right next door? What about the innocent civilian or the average kid? It is in all of us to suddenly snap over something. Anything can happen to an average person to make them into a lethal killing machine. And how do they do this? With the insanely overpowered guns that are available to pretty much everyone. Taking away guns will eliminate or drastically reduce the chance that my neighbor will tick and explode into a maniac and shoot everyone. The average person who has had no previous connection to criminal activity has easy access to guns. But if you take that away then he will have to spend more and go through a lot more pain to access guns, which will hopefully discourage most.

Another note: If someone comes into your home with a weapon and threatens you: 1, you have a terrible alarm system and should have spent your money on that instead of a gun. 2 He is probably already on top of you by the time you realize that there is someone there. 3 How will you have time to access a gun safe or even a hidden handgun to stop the intruder when he is already there?

I have enough confidence in alarm systems (dogs are the best) and our current law enforcement that we can take guns away.

Now compare this to the amount of homicides in America that involve a gun and compare it with our Australian shooting homicides per 100,000 people

This is due to our Australian strict gun laws

I rest my case
