Gave my friend (well so called friend) 120 bucks to go get me some things I needed since my car doesn't work. Was also going to pay him extra for helping me out. Next thing I know he texts me saying he got robbed and its all gone.
Coincidence s don't happen like that. It makes me angry because I know he is lying. He thought I can just say I got robbed and its all mine thinking there would be no punishment.
I dont want to resort to retaliation or violence but also I dont want this scum bag to get away with this without punishment.
120 dollars is a lot to me. And for him to say "I got robbed" is total cow manure.
Any suggestions on how to get this low life back?

#3Good one. I was also thinking picking him up when my car is fixed and saying were going to grab something to eat. Driving somewhere really far. Super far. Then leaving him in the middle of nowherePotato in his exhaust pipe

#7You gave him a cheque? And it was the cheque that was stolen? This sucks. He literally took my whole check.
If so...there are preventive measures for that

#8Somewhat ironically, under Pigman's law of reciprocity, if your friend was to find his own vehicle out of commission then he may be requiring certain financial errands of yourself, in which case it would be unfortunate if you, too, were 'robbed'.
In all seriousness though, I certainly wouldn't recommend taking matters into your own hands, as this will most likely only escalate and compound your problems further.
The best thing I would say is to explore legal channels for restitution and financial recompense / remuneration.
It should also be worth noting that however implausible or improbable the events described by your friend may seem, they are not technically impossible.
If indeed he was the victim of a robbery, then he would surely have brought the matter to the attention of the authorities who should thus have a corresponding incident report filed for the date in question. If not, then certain question marks will be raised.
There are also avenues such as small claims courts etc, the processes for which will vary according to the country in question.
Many countries may also offer free advice services, similar to the Citizen's Advice Bureau in the UK, which can be of far greater service than anything that I may write here, and could also be a good port of call.
Oberyn is right in so much as certain cheques may have stops placed on them, subject to certain conditions being met, in which event you should contact the issuer, though I assume by your posting this topic that this particular ship has sailed already.
As a side note, you might also want to proactively conduct an assessment of your banking account, to determine the likely impact of this incident and take steps regarding damage limitation... Losing this money is bad enough, but factor in unpaid cheques / mandate charges, cleared transaction fees and unauthorised overdraft penalties and the situation could be much more bleak. If you foresee any problems then be sure to contact your bank straight away to see what options are open to you.
Best of luck,
Magustra

#10What would happen if you ask him to repay you? You could also spray paint their entire house, that usually works.
Your arguement is invalid.
