A buckler is a good shield for your situation

don't use a spear. anything but bow for rangers are broken

The best shield in my opinion to use with a spear is the 180K lux shop shield because of the dual regen, extra health and energy. I cant stress enough the importance of regen in this game. But if your playing very defensively the OW shields are nice, but lack the regen. If your playing very agressively save for a nice off hand like trident of magic or whatever floats your boat. Since I started playing I have always had people talking about how bad a spear is, well i'm level 81 now and can take down level 95 eyes in OW with my spear. I love my build and it works. If you have fun doing it, then screw the peanut gallery. Play your way and just enjoy the game.

A Vanquisher shield might work.

180k is light years away for me. How much does that Vanquisher shield cost, and where can I get one?

It's from a old boss that spawned near greygorge I think, his spawn rate is probably as rare as icelord. But it really depends what world your in. In eqona there are only 2 so I'd would say 50-75k

Get a banded targe from the vendor in highshore village. I used it on my mage till level 60 or so

Dont use a shield.. rangers r an offensive class not defensive so shield is a bad idea. U can try it out but i can gurantee u that u would be bettr off with a bow.

My spear ranger is now level 115 and it is awsome. Im mostly using diamond spear with magic trident offhand, but when im fighting harder or higher level mobs ill switch trident to royal shield of the mountain. Im so glad that i didnt waist my time with a bow.
