So far, i have had a level 4 black wolf, wolf ability is around 750. traded that in and now i have a level 4 brown bunny that level is around 200 ability. i want more damage on bosses and leveling but i know that the wolf, if there is a bigger more upgraded wolf that my skill will be nullified. i am a lvl 164 ranger at the moment.

Either dragon or spider. If not you may want to wait a bit for new pet in corrupted garden. Who knows it might be better than spider.

For rangers on a budget, I'd go with a wolf as a ranger as you'd need strength in eg and if you use items which boost strength, you can go all dex in stats.
For rangers on a gold spree, get the eggs for a lvl 6 dragon but don't get one, wait for Corrupted Gardens.
