Re: What do yall think?

I've recently tried a full str build and i guess you guys would term it as a hybrid build but i hit 675 dex with 360 str. But imo anyone who elects to have a dex build doesn't maintain atleast 250 str is worthless and missing so much dmg. Up until 300 str you get a massive benefit for investing str. I wish i could post up my excel sheet with the damage formula and stats i can put in to give me my numbers but until then try it.

Like I said. Hello, you can either choose machine gun( my suggestion) or choose dex build and enjoy the frustration that limitations and misses are coming with dex build
I have full dl and find that as far as solo dex IMO is by far better probably for the average to light plat user. Less pots better heal more evades from attacks.
Strength mostly for the heavy plat user. Can go all attack and plow thru hastes hp regens pots.
As far as bossing id take a mostly high str build with some dex. Double shot is by far the best dmg skill on end game. On mord I usually hit 1 out of 4-6 times and I'd assume autos are the same way but having a high auto means a high double shot. Curious to see if elim will comment on this far as I know he atleast was at like 160 vit, 550 str and I'd guess about 430 dex but idk but that's about my build.

Are neither of you looking at the guy's equipment? and one will always need dex as a ranger, theres no point in arguing about it.

As for double shot, why max it when you don't have to (until your in dl then max it), especially if the majority of your points is in dex! I would take maxed longshot over maxed double shot any day, because longshot does more dmg hands down. But I still use dble at one, its still a good skill that way.

Sharp with dex can kick but. Rapid isn't economically and buildwise effective (100%) until you can get it to 40/40, as that's the new balance (should have stayed good at 1 OTM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). But at one it can still help, even if you can only use it once in a blue moon.

In my experience your missing a lot more with a str build (as you put it 'machine gun' build) unless you've got a decent amount of dex, and 200 isn't enough at the higher levels. With dex build your autos almost never miss and your skills are by far more effective.

However, with the build I suggested, Hello, you can get the best of both while using your gear to the fullest.

Like i said when I was str build i was 650 str and 5 dex 240ish with gear and i hit just as accurate imo seeing my dmg on bosses i can't really distinguish who hit what so I cant comment on that but for strict auto dmg and a heavy plat lvling all points in str imo you get plenty of dex from gear.

Longshot is one of the best skills available to the ranger class.
Double shot is a waste until you have full Dl or participate in end game boss battles, where the bosses have insane defence, and where an un-evadeable attack is a life saver. Sharp shot is much better at lower levels.

rapid shot is a great auto build skill, not for lvling
i would get another dps skill and use hastes, which give u 50% if super/combo (which is exact same amount like rapid) and 60% if heroic (which is 10% more than rapid)

if u want a build, u should choose if u want auto build or dex one
and if u got a druid, being auto is pretty easy to control both, also like napol said u could ditch bolas and light heal, no need for support skills with a perm druid

Ok so Napol following your suggestions as I lvl how should I distribute stat points? and do you suggest a 5th skill for extra points?

As you level I would distribute stat points like this: 1,2,0,2

This is to keep up your skill and defensive and attack powers while also giving you an auto attack boost.

For skills:
longshot-max
Sharpshot-max
Steady aim-max
Sharpen-max
Double at 1
Rapid at 1 (its crappy but you can still use it from time to time)

For your extra skill I would suggest either barbed shot (slow cast time, relatively long cd, but okay dmg- eventually, and with a sort of dex build you should be okay), or defensive spikes. When I used defensive spikes they were one of the best dps skills (v3), now they show not so good colors but it can still be useful dmg... especially if a mage has pierce lure ;). At about level 120 I still had spikes in v4, did about 60-90 dmg on mobs my level (leaning towards 60 more though  ), every time they hit me ofc. Spikes is a buff that lasts 90 sec and you can put on like steady and sharpen before battle.
Once you get enough points though it will be awhile, you can think of getting doubleshot to store the extra points (only put points in it if your going to get it to be the crit at 10 levels above your own).

Im not sure which you are going to like better, so I wont direct you to one specifically. One note: I was mostly a pure dex build (over 300 dex more towards 400 when I still used spikes).
