The fact of the matter is that it is instant damage, at least until the update anyways. So if you're hitting anything over 1k with it on mobs of your level then is say it is well worth the points... It's not like the ranger class is just overflowing with damage skills. Longshot is probably the only skill with the kind of damage that you guys are referring to and that comes with a ridiculous cast time and you have to be a certain distance away, and lets not forget that if it's canceled then you're delayed as well. I'd say doubleshot as well but that is subject to the same pierce resistance as sharp shot, correct me if I'm wrong.
Exactly.
Imo, the dmg skills for a str ranger are double shot/barbed shot, and for a dex ranger are sharp shot and longshot. Sharp is actually a very good skill, even though you do need a lot of dex.
Currently with 715 dex, my sharp shot does up to 3012 (+ 450 from hrung helm) damage at lvl 46. On most mobs my lvl it does about 1-1.7k dmg on avg, which is a great deal better then my auto. Also, one way to make it extremely useful, is to convince a mage or two in your clan to use a high lvl pierce lure. I swear, a high enough pierce lure is three times as good as shatter. When a mage casts a lvl 25 pierce lure on a lvl 175 firbolg, my sharp shot goes from 1.2k dmg to 2.3-2.5k, and thats mostly due to the extreme fluctuations it suffers.
On the topic of fluctuations...have any of you noticed that sharp shot always seems to hit way different amounts of damage? One time I hit 1.4k dmg, next I hit 2.1, then 1.3. Even mage skills dont seem to fluctuate quite that much...though maybe its just me.
