Re: Current State of Rangers
#101I just dont understand why they got worse every update. This update they are an absolute waste of time to lvl.
We all know who hasn't played rangerI wouldn't be complaining. you have bolas, which allows you to kill bosses solo that are only 10 levels below you, you have a heal that's almost as good as nature's touch, and you have free haste gloves as a skill. And you're only option for an offhand is like an overpowered trident, your armor is same as rogues, and your weapon damage is much more than rogues, and rangers have a free camo charm as a skill as well. Although rogue is a more ideal choice now that the update has come, rangers are still great and effective. The reason I think OTM didn't really upgrade rangers that much is that they recognized rangers were OP, and I guess they decided to nerf them. Mages are a little OP now I admit, but the only classes I would even consider playing to survive and nuke, are warriors and mages. Rogues have good damage but can't survive that well at all, and warriors have extremely high armor, which makes them take little to no damage. Mages now have overpowered nukes that can blast any class in one hit.I decided to wait a while to make this post based on what I've seen training as a ranger in update 4.
While rangers have been near the bottom of the pack for dps for a while now, it wasn't quite as noticeable as it is now.
Rogues and Mages got a major dps boost - rogue skills do more than auto, and I've seen mages hit 8k+ on 160+ mobs. What did rangers get? Rapid shot no longer hits as fast, Steady Aim was nerfed, Sharp Shot hits the same as an auto hit. . .a bit more if lucky. As for new skills, where are these points supposed to come from? Ranger is full of skills that cannot be used effectively unless you max them: Bolas, Conceal, Camo, Longshot, Sharp Shot. Should we choose not to use these skills we're left with Steady Aim (nerfed), Rapid Shot (nerfed), Light Heal (nerfed in pvp, which is a whooole nother complaint), Sharpen Weapons (admittedly a decent group buff, if you're training with rogues or have it maxed) and Barbed Shot which still isn't that great.
Sure, I get it, Ranger is the proverbial "Jack of all Trades" proficient at all, master of none. But this seriously takes it too far. With new bosses and rage timers, who wants a ranger that won't be putting out near as much dmg as a rogue or mage? Honestly, when we did the 160 6* boss on epona, I was shoved into the tank group as a backup druid. . .which we can thank sigil and energy issues for.
As far as pvp goes, Ranger is the underdog for all. . .alot of people talk about arena and if you can't defend yourself, don't go in. All our decent skills are nerfed, Light Heal only heals less than half its max, Bolas only lasts 15 seconds, Sharp Shot tends to do less dmg than auto, Rapid is slowed down so our auto won't get us far especially against rogues whose melee is faster than us on rapid. What do you expect us to do?
Sure rangers can solo, people like to come back to that one. . .but so can almost any class when set up properly, and with plat aids can do it alot faster.
Don't get me wrong, I still love ranger and will continue to play it, I just feel the class balance has been upset and it's leaving rangers in the dust.

+1I have loved playing ranger since July 2011. Bolus, light heal, steady aim and rapid shot have been staples of our class. They have all been effectively nerfed now. I have temporarily abandoned my 154 ranger to lvl my 106 mage. Deathsbank and I have been high level rangers on arawn for a long time. I find myself in complete agreement with him. As of now there is just no point dumping more time and plat into a losing cause. My 106 mage can out dps my 154 ranger on lvl 110's. yes I have my mage geared up very well but a class 50 lvl's lower should never be able to win at dps. I like Elim have seen problems arise that were evident and in bad need of fixing. Each time OTM has made adjustments. I just hope the adjustments to ranger are as over-reactive as they were to mages :-). Please OTM, this post is already 12 pages long, don't make us lament our class as long and as voraciously as mages did after update 3!!!
I put points into camo because I had enough to put into. So will you when you level/learn.
U made an awefull desicion by putting points into camo. I am a lvl 168 and i still dont have enough points to put into the skills i want. Atm i use longshot, bolas, steady aim, sharpen weapons, and light heal. I may change up some things but if i had more points i would make camo my last priority because it ismt good. It is nothing like a camo charm.
