sharpen vs steady aim.

sharpen doesnt last as long or give as much dmg bonus - but it affects everyone and has nice cast time (at the moment at least). Of course, steady aim, in addtion to dmg, adds a lot attack bonus - which affects your dps by increasing your chance to hit... Both are great.

With improved barbed shot and all the other new and improved skills (flame arrow, recuperate, etc.) - we will have a tough time deciding which skills to use! We may see some nice variety in rangers.

Personally, i liked longshot and sharpshot together - but i am a dex ranger.

So many skills, so few points.....

i may finally bind my imperial dragon barbed shot ring. and use more skill point rings in lieu of my aggy dmg rings. so much to experiment with - can't wait.

of course, please be aware than many skills are still being tweaked. we see the skills change 2-3 times a week sometimes. so take it with a grain of salt....

Thanks for comparing Sharpen and Steady Akbar. Since Sharpen is a group buff, it makes sense that it would be a bit weaker than an individual buff like Steady. But in a group with plenty of DPS, I think Sharpen could be a very useful skill. Aggy may learn to hate this skill.

So, Barbed Shot was tweaked. Any other skill improvements? I have heard something about Camo being tweaked. True?

There are a Few new ranger skills and I figure I would give you guys a sneak peak at them although as with the rest ofthe information from beta this is still subject to change .

Sharpen weapons - a new group buff that adds pierce damage to all group members in range

Long shot - a new bow weapon skill that can only be used from a distance , when it hits the mob is rooted and it does damage .

Explosive arrow - another bow skill fires an explosive arrow that hits all enemies within it's range , aoe skill .
You better max sharpen weapons for us pierce people :D

another point to remember - many 150+ people have a damage stat near 1k. steady or sharpen may add 50 dmg (depending on various factors) - so we are talking about a 5% (maybe 10%) change in damage. as we get better stuff (dragonlord, bone, etc) - we are going to be talking about a less than 5% increase in dmg. At that point, one has to consider whether the points are better spend in something else:

for example: is it better to have a 50 pt increase to your shots for a minute (or whatever) - or having a skill like barbed that does an initial hit at your auto dmg and 3 decent dot dmg which is far greater than the 50.

on the other hand, using sharpen weps on a bunch or rapid fire rangers and rogues would provide, over the course of the spell, quite a bit of dmg. say 50 pts given to 6 other toons - that is 350 extra points of dmg each time they all attack. Maybe you get 10-20 attacks in - that becomes 3500-7000 extra damage on a boss.

Can you get that much extra damage on the boss using another skill? i don't know, but it is the type of thing i am thinking about :)

Rangers have become like mages in some respect. We have definite damage skills (like mages do) and definite group support/enhancement skills (also like mages). While most rangers will share some skills, a group of rangers that have coordinated to have different skills would be quite formidable.

As for Camo skill updates: i will let you discover that one for yourself! hehe
