Ranger is a really interesting class

I started a ranger recently and it's been interesting.
Quite an unusual class to master compared to other classes which has a simpler approach - Warrior/Rogue : Strength , Mage/Druid: Focus
Based on what I have read, rangers should invest in dex which is also the original intention from Admin I think?
Yes dex helps in attack rate and evading melee swings but this means our auto damage is entirely depended on our weapon. (For the purpose of this discussion, can we leave out non- quest gears that provide extra damage, just focus on the class itself). Some would also say dex helps in the skill damage but I dont really feel the impact on existing dex required skills and I remember some high lv ranger with 500 odd dex commented his sharp shot is 1.5 times his auto attack. :| For 500 odd dex for 1.5 times seems a bit dissappointing no? Barbed shot is weird so I havent tried it yet. Defensive spike is aoe dmg with max at 100 damage per hit. Hummm... I just feel rangers are not very damage friendly compared with other classes. Warrior / Rogue with high lv str can deal good - instant amount of skills dmg, same for Mage and Druid with high focus. But again rangers seems hummm with sharp shoot and even more hummm with barb shot. Oh light heal works great with dex obviously but I am talking abt skill dmg
I suppose I am starting to understand why rangers are considered to be good DPS but perhaps not good damage. We are the only class with increased attack speed skill and rapid shot is great to use. So I can assume our damage over a period of time (say on a boss fight) may be equal or more or slightly less than warriors? Just would like to see a pump in skill dmg as well considering the amount of dex we are putting into. Yes we can go 2-1 dex - str ratio but it would be nice to have more skill damage for a dex specialised built.
Then again, I suppose some can argue stating that ranger is easily the only class who can solo without pots. (So can druids but its quite hard for them) I also tend to agree we are the jack / jane of all trades. We can damage (Not wow but sufficient), support and heal. Jeez theres nothing we cant do. So perhaps this is the main reason why rangers dont have (Should not) get damage increase if not rangers will be truely OP.
As mentioned, I am still very green with ranger. Just like to clarify my thoughts so i can play the class better.
PS: Thought about going pure strength built but a dex based ranger told me he went full str before. With 380 strength his damage with frozen bow was 710 while with 5 str his damage was 580. So it seems pure str built only increased dmg by 120 odd. Can someone confirm this?
