Defensive Spikes

does anyone here using this skill?
i saw that my bolas isnt that effective for lvling, so i wanted to change this skill to dmg skill, i changed it to spikes and now its lvl 21\20
its kinda weak but useful, but i wanted to know if i should change this skill to something else (not bolas)
im using also sharp shot rapid shot and light heal

I think defensive spikes is a nice skill for adding a little extra damage. I max out steady aim, rapid shot, light heal, and conceal. Any remaining points go to spikes. I think the key is to have realistic expectations for defensive spikes. It won't kill the mob for you but adds a bit of damage each time you are hit. If you are working with a mage, lure of assassins increases the damage from spikes significantly.

i know it wont kill the mob, but it should be as good as cloak, and not something like 30 dmg at lvl 21

Ya we have to go through the work for the pages and blue books, while mages still do way more with a beginner skill

How were you using Bolas that you found it ineffective for leveling?
i know it wont kill the mob, but it should be as good as cloak, and not something like 30 dmg at lvl 21

Spikes does around about the same damage no matter how many points you put in it, most i ever seen it hit was 78 and that was with a maxed out pierce lure.

It should not do the same amount of damage as cloak however with a dexterity built ranger it should be hitting around 100 every time and not 20-40.
This is the sort of stuff that deters me off dexterity rangers as we only got 3 skills which i find completely pointless, entangle cooldown is too long, conceal crap and gets you to a certain point where you die, defensive spikes not enough damage and a total waste of energy.

bolas isnt really helping me survive, since i have enough good stuff i can tank a mob, if it was for bosses i would use it
well, at lvl 150 like ur ranger 100 dmg, its nothing, at lvl mage can do 200+ dmg without lure
even with dex build the dmg isnt that high, and at ow even 100 dmg isnt that useful

crim u have no choice cuz rangers dont have fire cloak, would u use barbed than spikes? yes spikes deals bout half dmg of cloak but spikes is more useful than any other leftover skills such as barbed, entangle and etc

spikes are nice because they last for one full minute, and its a reactive aoe skill. You can have several mobs attacking you and receiving damage from spikes. The downside is its piss-poor damage output. Mine is at 20/20 and it only does around 30 damage each hit. Im really hoping that this gets improved because for melee rangers this skill could be quit usefull.

ik its a usefull skill, but yes i also hope that it'll be a lil stronger skill, cuz for ow bosses its really helpful skills (cuz they're fast atkers)
