Ranger stats? What to go with.

#1
I have a lvl 38 ranger on server Lugh. I am planning on doing a rebirth of my stats and just wanted to see some others stats and comments. I have been a loyal ranger user on Everquest, Everquest 2 and Lotro. T o say the least building a ranger in this game is quite different. Right now I have 70str,54Dex,38Foc,and 48Vit. I wanted to hit hard and often but am having trouble with energy. I have some energy sigils but not enough. My skills are Sharp 10,Bolas 10, Light Heal 8, Steady aim rapid and barbed all at 5. I hear of people going with high str and dex and some going with high foc and vit. So I just wanted to hear some of your opinions on how you play this great class. Thank you.

- The only thing I can say for sure is that you need more Focus and Meditation needs to have 10 skill points. After that, it becomes a little fuzzier due to the update. I'm still trying to figure out if Dex actually scales in usefulness, tough to say yet. Also, I find Barbed Atk or whatever it's called to be a worthless mana hog so unless some drastic improvements were made during the update, redo and don't put a drop into that. From one old school EQ'er to another... Good hunting!

75, 145, 40, 40. I am currently lvl 56. Dex has helped a ton. I plan on using the next while to get my str up to 100, then add more dex. so far i have had plenty of energy. With this set up, get bolas up as high as you can, mine is lvl 15. It works wonders to save you on the lower health count. I focus my attack plan with barbed shot and sharp shot Meditation will also be needed unless you buy a lot of energy sigils. I am able to train on unicorns, wisps and druids which are all 67+ lvled

After much experimenting this is what I've found to work best stats wise.
Put about 30 in dex (maximum!) just enough to use all skills and weps. As a ranger the dex does little to zero difference as to actual hit ability or dodge. I've had it with all 4 stats equally divided for a long time and then reset my points completely to fill my strength, vitality, and focus. I've seen no change it my hit intake or output. But I live longer in battle and can use twice as much focus. Plus I'm pulling stronger hits because of strength.

I lead with focus and vitality evenly now followed by a dip in strength using my 5 skill points at time of leveling up as: 2-vit 2-focus, and 1 strength.

Also build abilities around bolas and meditate first when starting out. Then build with light heal and sharp shot abilities. These 4 skills should ALWAYS be your primary ones when starting out. From there it is up to you if you choose rapid shot, barbed shot, I think it's called precise shot, and then the two other healing abilities. The abilities after the first four depends if u are more of a healer mentality or a fighter mentality.

Tip: In group boss fights u can maximize your potential and worthiness to group this way: tank begins fight. You bolas boss and use sharp shot or barbed (I use barbed in this instance) for one shot immediately after use of bolas. Then set ur meditation next but DO NOT engage auto attack at any point (this will stop your meditation effect). Click on quick bar from group names on left of screen for your tank and use light heal two or three times depending on how much mana bar level is. Then immediately repeat... Bolas, barbed shot, med, heals.

This will almost allow you to lose no mana, still bolas for tank to slow down boss movement and effects, get your hits in on the boss multiple times thru the barbed shot effect, and still be a great resource for healing the tank as a secondary healer.

This is the one great feature to being a ranger. You are a do everything character who can keep your focus almost max for boss fights.

Sadly the downfall as of now is that one great feature is also the greatest weakness for rangers as the game is built currently. As a "solo artist" it is almost (tho I've seen it be done) a class that will never be a true tank. The skills and abilities are all very good for rangers BUT the admin has provided no "Great" skill to enable rangers to become elite like a warrior, rogue, or Druid.

Hope this helps :-):-):-) and happy hunting to all!!!

Agree with sparo str is your asset! We bola to live so dont put to much into vit (mine is at 100). Focus is at 35 for me with my ammy not sure why i keep it there just have to. Dex is at 60 and the rest is at str. Get yourself FrostBelly bow and you are golden. Long live rangers!
