Damage wise does skewer do more than your auto

It uses your damage stat, therefore not doing more damage than your auto. IMO best to use at skill level 1.

If you're already at close range why root it only for a few seconds? Better using longshot or bolas. Even for rogues. Only way I see it useful is if there's a boss who's aggro on a ranger and someone wants to stop it from getting to the ranger buying him/her time to run to another spot and heal or step back for three seconds and use sigils to an advantage.
