Spear/Shield build - Stat help

#1
Hey all, I am looking to return to celtic heroes and to attempt to change my ranger over to spear. As im level 127, if I rebirth I have 630 points to spend and would like a bit of guidance in spending them.
I would also like to know which skills and which shield I should use, rampart, or reaver.
If there is any other information you need, please ask.

You really shouldn't use a shield over an offhand like the Dagger of Slaying/Axe...your damage will be quite low compared to others. And last I checked, Rangers don't tank
If you can afford it, have both Shield/DPS offhand. (Type depends)

Hi, I quit. Thanks.
Booty is the most important thing.

Yeah I know that I shouldn't prioritize one, but at first all I am looking to do is to test the amount of damage output I have with a shield, then with an offhand dagger or axe, and out of the two weapon offhands I will most likely side with the axe (Assumption).
My damage wouldnt be all that low with the shield as well as atm I have a radiant earthstone ammy and a 50 elemental damage charm, that combined with maybe the reaver shields damage aura, as well as the strength it gives, I was thinking that might be a viable option to look into.
Thank you for your input though, I am still quite a ways off making a definite build decision.

You mean most rangers don't tank. :D 8-)

But I agree I would take axe offhand over a shield.

personally, for lvling, not tanking, if ur going with a shield i suggest the one with the fire cloak (i dont remember if its rampart or reaver), gives decent armour, str, defence and perm cloak

ive seen only one person lvling with a shield at high lvl, which is a rogue with ravager shield (also fire cloak one for lvl 150), he did pretty well, but idk how will it work for rangers (mostly since most of rogue's skills arent dmg based)

Cheers for this, now that I have the item build down now all I need is help with the amount of points to distribute and skill points too.
Elim, I know that spear rangers are limited in their dps, but I dont play this game all too serious, considering ive quit and come back more than most would without permanently quitting, but even so, I like to experiment and I am sure after a bit of time I could tweak my spear build to suffice for higher level gameplay.

Use spikes , sharpen weapons , entangle , light heal , bolas . Spear build is a bit dull IMO but kills are fast enough , keep bolas so you can bolas the mob and back off to recast buffs or heal.

Wouldnt the use of spikes and entangle in conjunction with each other cancel out quite a bit of damage output that you could get from spikes? Although, spikes would work well with the aura from the reaver shield....I think I will test both, thanks for the input Elim, I had completely forgotten about sharpen weapons until now!!
