RedRouge's Solo Spear Ranger lvl 120
I seen some ppl asking about spear rangers so i decided to give this a shot
First off using a spear for a Ranger is a bit backwards, only because there aren't enough ranger skills that use the spears damage.
Only reason i'm doing it is because i have most of the gear left over from my Spear Rogue Main. Rogues have many skills you can use with a spear
ie. ShadowStrike, Rend, QuickStrike, Riposte, PoisonWeapon, Assassinate, ExposeWeakness, FastReflex, SmokeBombs with only Sneaky being a dagger skill *cough* DL rondel.
So counting the bow skills out, all we have left for rangers is, Bolas, Entangled, Rapid shot, Sharpen Weap, Defensive spikes, Light Heal. (SteadyAim as well if you want to swap out a bow constantly... which i don't. ikik the increased attack is great with Str builds, but it's so tedious to swap, and sharpen is an easier substitute)
btw Bolas is pointless because you aren't fighting at range.
These are the skills i use:
MAX: Defensive spikes, Rangers damage cloak not much dps but is passive damage. Good duration on skill and as long as mob is auto attacking you it does damage.
MAX: Light Heal, great for soloing, quick, usually can pull a heal off even during mobs auto attacks.
*put points 10 lvls higher than your level
10 lvls:Entangled good for soloing, slows down mobs auto attacks.
10lvls: Double attack unavoidable double attack with weapon. Set timer for attack which has nothing to do with speed of weap. A must with a spear.
Rapid shot, haste auto attacks, always good to speed up a spear's auto : (points in skill match the time of my sunshard and reaver ring.)
rest of poinsts : Sharpen weap, increases damage of auto
Skew, uses weapons damage and speed, roots the enemy for 6 secs. Dont put skills points into this. If you do, then it's only good for messing with ppl.
So missing out on Skills that do damage with a spear, I opted to try something different with My Spear ranger than i did with my rogue.
I concentrated on Passive Damage from Cloak Skills which you can get with Lux from past events and a Reaver shield. Also It's constant damage as long as the mob is auto attacking you. Also keep in mind no matter how puny the damage may seem it's all stackable and unavoidable.
Using Skills, and Items with Cloaking damage...
-Spectral Talisman of Midnight (adds cloaking skill of 250 magic damage 15 secs)
-Shield of the Reaver (30-60 cloaking damage permanant with shield equiped)
-Defensive spike skill at 34 doing 104 damage
-Ruby Skull fire Pendant 20 damage fire shield (2011 halloween misc 30 armour 50 health 50 energy)
-Fire Shield scrolls. 33 damage per tick 2 mins @ 1 scroll for 1 plat that last only 2 mins. It's a total waste of plat. If there was an elixir version i would maybe consider purchasing them for level lixing but atm the Scrolls are silly, outdated and only does as much damage as the Ruby Skull which is pitiful.
So here is an average Damage of the Cloaks per tick on various range of mobs close to my lvl of 120.
note individually they are pretty horrid, but in total they actually do good damage and it is all passive. So no energy loss while in battle and it's constant per tic whether you are autoing, healing, or running away keke.

Full Lunar Armour (will change to Obsidian which adds double the attack than Lunar and adds health, better for lvling on mobs without chaos)
Spear
Dark Trident of Zeal (vit) only because vit is more versatile than Str, and Dex.
100 pierce, 3100 speed, 25 vit, +100 spear
Offhand
Shield of the Reaver
armour:100, resist heat cold magic:100, defence:150, str 120, adds permanent damage shield of 30-60 damage
Neck
Spectral Talisman of Midnight
regen 40 per tick, 100 magic dmg, adds cloak skill 250 magic damage 15 secs
Misc
Ruby Skull fire Pendant 20 damage fire shield
(2011 halloween misc 30 armour 50 health 50 energy)
Bracer
Sunshard Band of the Mountain Peak, 20 regen adds 800 attack 15 secs, 250 health
Vagrant's Bracer of Dexterity, light heal +5, spear + 250, dex, 75
Rings
dragon ring of defensive spikes
Sunshard ring of the Sacred Grove, 35 armour, 35 str, 20 regen health
Spectral Ring of the Reaper, adds 30% haste, 15% total attack, 100 poison damage 15 secs
Spectral Ring of theHuntsman, adds 30% run speed, 15% total def, 60% run speed, 15 secs
Yeah i know, i'm not the average Spear Ranger but i needed to fill the skill void for using a spear with my gear.
Imh, spearing for Rangers isn't a good choice, unless you can get the gear that I have or find some other dps avenue for spearing for Rangers.
Atm Rangers lack skills to help with spears but what i've done was used event Lux and tried to enhance the skills that are available.
-For example the Rapid shot skill i use the SunShard supremacy (skill from bracer) skill adding 800 attack, and the spectral ring skill adding 100 poison damage with the hasted speed of Rapid shot. This increases my chances to hit whilst boosting damage for the duration of the skill.
Anyhow without any gripes my Spear Ranger is super fun and is one tough cookie beating 4* mobs 10 lvls higher than me. Although i wouldn't suggest anyone trying to level a spear ranger as a main. There is no way you will be able to get this gear for your spear ranger if it's your first Character. Most of this gear is hand me downs and or purchased because of the money i've gotten from my high level main.
