Hey guys I am brand new to the game and I would like a viable way to build a rogue in to a high functioning high level.
I don't have platinum and don't intend to get it for a while. How can I build a rogue from level 1 and be any good? Specifics on stats, skills, and gear would be very helpful. Please keep in mind I don't know all the areas or where to buy gear yet.

If your going the 100% FTP route I suggest that you do all of your bounty quests every day and save any tokens that you get as rewards for a mount during the next event. Save your gold up for a regen ammy. Bountys give decent gold also. Start fishing. Fishing can give you platinum. Use any that you get for extra hotbar slots and any permanent sort of thing you may need from the store. For your build use a dex/vit blend. Do the Fettle quest in shalemont, its good until level 40 something.

Where can I buy regen ammys?

Pretty much anything you buy in game should be second hand. It will be cheapest as most people discount from store price anywhere from 5-250k or more.

Be sure to ask around on your server forum about prices on items, look in castle at prices people are selling for.

Plan ahead when buying. Don't buy an item you'll only use for 5 levels, especially if those levels will be quick.

Do bounties as was stated, keep tokens, don't buy anything from token shop until next event. Here's new pets and mounts coming out.

Read the forums and learn the game mechanics. Best way to enjoy the game I feel, is to know how things work. Skills, stats, classes etc.

I would love to do that but I'm very poor. Way too many bills right now. I think I'll just have to suck it up haha.

Is there another class that would be easier for someone just starting. I really just want to lay out a ton of damage. Highest dps character is my goal.

Rogue is best dps class, u can easily make a good amount of money when starting out just by doing bounties n lvling,
Enuf to afford a heroic Amy.
I'd like to say it's not impossible to be one of the best without plat, yes u may not have many mounts or fashion but it's the character what matters, bossing with clan is the key.
Don't buy shadow strike, farm it!
The game provides u with everything u need just by bossing, by the time u are endgame u will know what to do.
It's all about patience since in this game you can't be the best alone.
Rogue is highest damage in short burst, Mage has Heavy Damage but slower and squisher.
I suggest u trying all characters before choosing a main lvl 40-50 ull get a hang of it.
Ofc the money u make while testing toons u can mail it to the one you choose to play at the end.

Fishing has a rare chance to provide you plat at start, you would want that after a while for hotbars.
