I have found that life steal, gives u the amount you inflicted if the mob is within 20 levels of you or above your level at all. Otherwise im 193, if i lifesteal a pirate i only get about 700 hp even though im dealing 1400+ dmg

I'm 191 and snorri (180) gives me less health than i hit him for, so do hrungnir adds (184).

Happens to me too

I believe these differences for you are because you are using poison weapon, the extra poison dmg increases skill dmg, it won't increase how much hp u get back.

Auto damage does not increase skill damage on lifesteal... Only specified skills are increased with auto damage, such as sneaky and assassinate

Perhaps that is the glitch

I just thought that the heal is lowered if the mob is lower lvl than u, by around 20 lvls.

That is not a matter of heal, nor resist, resists would affect the dmg and therefore affecting the amount of health being healed, but the dmg is shown, cant argue with the numbers, did 900 dmg healed 888.

I have no idea of what makes it happen, but its prob not just any common thing like resists, or poison wep, or any of that, when i used it on my rogue alt, it happened a lot that i could hit 400 and heal 350, sometimes it heals less by a bit sometimes by a lot, and that was on mobs at the same lvl as my rogue's.

in my experience, when i was leveling with lifesteal, i always got the same amount of health as per damage, as long as the mob was my level or higher. when i used on lower level mobs, the heal dropped below the amount of damage.

I have never used on a boss where i paid enough attention to see if the rules are different on bosses.

Another thing to look at, is it possible the 15% attack increase from reaper ring is the difference?
