How should I play rogue?

#1
So, I used to play this game a long time ago, and I want to play rogue.

What are the best skills nowadays?
Is a full strength build okay, or do I need dex?
Also, I'd like to attempt to make it to level 100 without any kind of lux except for a heroic ammy of rejuv, which I will keep for new characters down the road (because they can't wear the Otherworld lux, right?)

Also, once I do make it to level 100, what is the best lux to get??

Thanks in advance!

The rogue is ultimately a balanced class of DPS (damage per second) in both skills and auto attack aspects and survival. However, the challenge many beginner rogues face is distinguishing Dexterity from Strength and vice versa. If you say you are a beginner rogue, I would assume you are in the mid 50 range in terms of level. This is the phase where DPS lies in Strength (until higher levels at 90 and above) since Dexterity is simply not needed for low-level hence weak mobs. Now, work your way up the ladder with points placed into skills such as Sneaky Attack (Strength based, this is argued as many players dislike its cooldown and cast speed), Shadowstrike (Dexterity based, highly recommended, teleport and decent damage even with a Strength build), Quick Strike (a must have), and the final skill can either be Riposte (for maximum DPS) or Life Steal (for survival). Since you've mentioned that you will be buying luxury items, I can assume that Focus will not be a problem as the energy regeneration will surpass the amount of energy used after casting a combination of skills.

EDIT: Just realized you mentioned you will NOT be using any luxury items until level 100. However, a Heroic Amulet might just do the job with energy regeneration.

The trickiest part of all of this is: You will need to place points into Dexterity after level 85 ish. Why? Shadowstrike. Survival also plays a role in it as well but Shadowstrike, a high damage of it is what is preferred.

The luxury items that I personally used at level 100 were: Spectral Talisman of Midnight (it's now relatively cheap), Sunshard Bracelet of the Mountain Peak (sort of unnecessary), Icecrystal Brooch of Hearth (love this to death), and double Arachnus health rings to account for the loss of Vitality. Speaking of Vitality, your health points should hover around 2k-3k, 2k being the minimum of course. I don't think buying an overload of luxury items at level 100 is needed as level 150 is just in arm's reach ;).

The offhand luxury item should be an elemental axe. This will add both Strength points (hence the reason why there is not much of a need to add even more strength points as there somehow is a plateau to how much auto damage you are able to do on mobs) and elemental damage to your auto (although most of it is resisted by mobs). Don't buy anymore luxury items if you simply can't afford it. They are just unnecessary additions if you plan to continue on as the gear available will only get better.

Conserve your gold for Elixirs (unless you are patient and diligent with your levelling) and sigils (do not worry about health sigils if you have a really close druid friend).

Okay, this is very helpful. I just started today, so I'm only level 15. :| I'm putting at least 45 points into dex atm because I would like to make use of the ancient armor set, along with an ancient dagger.

The skills that I want to use are Riposite, Shadow strike, Life steal, and Quick Strike (I know, no sneaky, but I hate that skill)
Also, I will be saving gold for my Lux items, because I am planning on using the 100$ itunes apple I always get for my birthday on platinum. I plan to spend 50% on super combos, and save the rest of the plat and sell elixars and pots on demand...That way I can get my elixirs and first 450k or so on $100 instead of just the 500k.

I won't lix, probably, until level 100.

If you can afford the Ancient armor set, then by all means buy it as it will help you along the way. However, if you are really deciding to save as much gold as you can then you should grind the levels with minimal expense as Warden quest armor (starting at level 65 with gloves and every 5 levels after, the quest fragments can be obtained from both player markets and boss raids) will be far better and essential for future armor quests such as Meteoric and Frozen as well as Dragonlord (all upgrades of Warden armor and weapons).

Also, when buying platinum, make sure to buy the event chests in order to sell for a greater profit (unless you're feeling lucky and wanting to take a chance at a beautiful mount ;)). Buying Combination Elixirs straight off the in-game market would be a great waste as there will be a loss of 600k or so if you were to spend all 4k platinum on Elixirs rather than on event chests (each chest sells for 15-20k).

I hope you enjoy the Rogue :D It's a truly versatile class, ranging from tank builds to full-out lock builds.
