I believe that a good amount of your stats should be vit. It would also help if you had some rings for the other categories. You should have good armor and skills such as shield bash and taunt.

To elaborate on armor:
lvls 1-40 You shouldn't be tanking
lvls 41-59 Get the ancient armor and a good one handed weapon so you can hold a shield.
lvls 60-99 Warden armor? flint if needed. Start saving for lux items.
lvls 100+ I have no idea
