Would anyone suggest using a golden blade over a diamond offhand for training? I was told by a friend a warrior is better off with a diamond offhand than a golden blade.

Diamond offhands provide slashing damage.

Golden blades provide fire, ice, or magic damage.

Although the golden blades have 200 fire, ice, or magic damage, they probably won't do as much as the diamond offhand.

However, it depends on the enemy. Since there are alot of fire damage mobs out there in the Otherworld, you might have more luck killing with the golden ice blade. Once again, however, the tower will become an available area in patch 7, (possibly) that was mentioned to have lots of ice type enemies and bosses. That means you might want to get a golden fire blade, if you were to enter the tower.

But, since you'll probably be level 150 by the time update 7 comes, you probably wont need to enter that area unless the bosses in there drop items for the dragon armor.

HOWEVER, The golden blades provide much more bonuses, though more costly. So, here are your choices:

To save money, I recommend the diamond offhand.

For delicious bonuses and more damage to the fire type enemies out there, get a golden blade of ice.

-Slashing damage, which may do more damage overall to certain monsters
-Cheaper

Cons of Diamond Offhand:

-Not many bonuses

Pros of Gold Ice Blade:

-Delicious bonuses
-Lots of cold damage, which can kill the fire monsters easily

Cons of Gold Ice Blade:

-Expensive

I wouldn't say price is any issue I already have blade and tons of other items plus tons of gold, was just curious if there was a huge difference in damage.

The diamond sabre offhand does 19 damage. If you have about 200 strength, then that 19 will add about 6 times itself.
So it would add around 114 damage, with no extra bonuses. Although with 300 strength the 19 damage will be multiplied by almost 7, adding nearly 133 damage.
For 130k, that's not bad. But it's not as good as the golden blade offhand, which also adds 75 strength.

They should add ability bonus on the offhands would make us have a reason to buy one, would be great for dps chars.
