It depends on what your tanking and whose healing you honestly. Your looking for a general response so I'll try and give you one, vit first and formost. Put all points in vit. They affect all tanking skills, which you should also have if your a tank, no points in swing or pummel. Go all out with your skills in stance, def form, bash, shield wall, warcry, taunt.
I'd say after vit/health, armor is next in line of importance. It affects every melee hit u take.
After that worry about defense. It offers a chance to dodge a melee att, where as armor reduces every attack and more health allows you to take more dam.
Not sayin def isn't important, it is. Just sayin its last in line in terms of health and armor imo.

i wouldnt go exactly by this post, it wasnt meant for tanks, it was generally for the 'ideal' warrior
another reason i wouldnt use this post is that it got a bit confusing, ive seen noone almost including armour, i guess they took it as resists, same as evasion and defence, which u should not do, since elemental resists and physical resists (armour, sometimes wards) are different, different amount prob, different ways to get, and same goes for evasion and defence which WE (i included it too which isnt the best) considered as almost same thing, but evasions go for skills, and defence goes for melee
