The Infamous Noob Questions

#1
Well... been here in the forums for a while reading up on the warrior skills and all the strengths and weaknesses and other bs that comes with it :). But im still unclear on some things so decided to make a thread about it. And also going to post some of my personal noobs build just so you can all point and laugh at my failures and hopefully give suggestions (maybe not laugh so much and give advice anyways?)

Just wondering about a few things, whats the huge difference between enduring guard, proc stance, and defensive formation? Currently using both proc stance and def formation (think both maxed) since I tend to run solo or take aggro when running with a wandering mage or ranger. And my warrior is lvl 71 so don't have full warden yet, and too poor for vendor armor and luxs (saving up for heroic ammy).

And why do people argue over pummel, double attack, and giant swing? I just know pummel depends on skill level, and that giant swing depends on str and weapon weight, no real idea on whats double attack good in. And since i don't know about double attack I run rupture maxed, shatter almost maxed, and double attack at 10/20 for the extra damage when rupture gets evaded or something.

Any advice you got for a dear low level like me is appreciated :3 Or any nachos is also welcomed, some good ol' virtual nachos.

Formation adds defence. Good against element based mobs.
Stance adds armor. Good for direct damage mobs.

When you can afford a decent offhand you will find double does more damage than pummel.

Defensive Formation, adds defence, affected by vit, gets 5 skill pts from dl boots
Protective stance, adds armour, affected by vit, gets 5 skill pts from dl bp
Enduring Guard, adds physical evasions, affected by vit, no points from dl

dl (dragonlord) adds taunt proc stance def form pummel and shatter
both def form and proc stance are amazing skills that add great amount of armour and defence
all are affected by melee combat as well as vit
enduring guard is a crap skill, while adding only physical evasion and even tho the pretty high amount its hard to see a difference, its pretty crap overall, against end game bosses since they mostly doesnt have physical skills

aggy doesnt have
hippo does
mordy doesnt (i think, most of dragons dont)
necro, most likely doesnt (ive only got to see the ice shards), hes prob using mostly ice based skills

proc stance adds armor
so all damage that you take (if it hits you) is reduced

defensive formation adds defense
so it increases your chance to dodge/parry/block any auto attack

enduring guard adds physical attack evasion (worst skill of the 3 imo)
it increases your chance to dodge physical attack evasion skills like pummel, giant swing, and some others

giant swing is if youre a "tank" with barely any strength, but lots of elemental damage
it was ok i guess
i used it since i use almost no strength
affected by weapon damage
put points to increase damage

pummel is if youve got some strength
becomes really good if youve got some gear (beastbone, rings, charms)
not affected by your weapon damage
put points to increase damage

double attack can work for anything
simply does twice your weapon damage on an enemy, and always hits
put points to increase the lvl max by 5
for example, with 10 points in it, you would only be able to do double damage to a lvl 50 enemy
if you want it to do double damage to something your level, you have to increase the number of points in it
if double attack is not increased to your level, it just does normal weapon damage, but still automatically hits

These are wrong...
Defensive Formation adds defence, which helps you dodge enemy melee attacks, and it's worth maxing as a full tank. Otherwise, you can put extra points in.
Protective Stance does indeed add armor, which isn't elemental resist. It protects against Slash, Crush, and Pierce damage.

Not always-when pummel is 50/40 then it's really good DPS.
To answer the OP, Giant Swing is a crappy skill dps wise-not burst damage-but good with a ton of elemental damage(Criminal cleared this up for me back in the day), because of the casting time and cooldown.
Double Attack cannot be evaded and is basically 2 auto attacks up to a certain level.
aggy doesnt have
hippo does
mordy doesnt (i think, most of dragons dont)
necro, most likely doesnt (ive only got to see the ice shards), hes prob using mostly ice based skills

Booty is the most important thing.

giant swing can be good, but i dont think u gain tons of DPS from it, due casting time, u can hit 2-3 times on haste before hitting with giant swing, but at higher lvls u can get high giant swing dmg which makes the gap from melees to giant swing's dmg high enough (i would say it can get to 2k+ gap dmg, it also depends on melee, even tho seeing the very high dmg and hitting over 3k or 4k or even 5k, need to think about the casting time, if u can hit 5k its prob with very slow wep which still makes melee sometimes more useful since giant swing gets much slower as well), altough yilley's saying about giant swing and shatter having perfect timing, it is wrong sometimes, since the casting time is pretty long, eventully u will find urself unable to get giant swing in shatter, mostly since they both have 20 secs cooldown, still can be good skill (trying to get it as 6th skill at lvl 25-30 if i can grab myself an imperial atatch helm)

as for hippo, hippo is our nickname for hrung in belenus

I think prot stance and def form do essentialy the same thing but ps boosts armour and def form does defense

I use both these on my warrior AND they stack. Makes my warrior pretty much invincible and grants me the ability to use more stat points on my dps features
noone ever said they dont stack :S
