It's close to impossible to play without lux, but it is definitely possible to play without plat. That's the distinction I'm trying to make.

I didn't realise you were scammed, so my advice now would just be to farm gold and buy luxury items.

Lux isn't luxury in this game. It's a must have. Farm pirates til you have enough gold for 100 dagger. That adds regen and decent dmg.
