Hi, it's determined by your post count:
0 - 49: Peasant
50 - 99: Commoner
100 - 299: Squire
300 - 499: Shieldbearer
500 - 799: Thane
800 - 1999: Chieftain
2000 - 4999: Warchief
5000 - ?: High Chieftain
