Rogue Skill Merchant Glitches

Apparently. it is the best shop to sell junk. I decided to go give it a try. Once i got there, the merchant tells me "ill trade u once u tell lord maclir about croockback issues" or something along those lines. I proceed to go see lord maclir and he just says "you are welcomed to this castle"... but i still cant trade the merchant. He just says to go see maclir. Help?
