Does anyone have anything quantifiable about dex based skills?
I threw a lot of dex in my ranger right after the update, thinking it would make her awesome... But the more recent posts seem to lean back towards str being the stronger stat - to the point that dex sounds mostly useless.
I thought someone had posted the dex to light heal formula, but don't see it in my search or quick look through the last several pages on this forum.
What about entangle? What is the dex relationship there? Is there a better chance for it to work? Does it slow them down more?
Does dex do ANYthing to counter evasion skills? (ex: does high dex mean bolas work more often?)
Thanx!
Re: Dex based abils
#2I mess with my build constantly , if I want to be support for a few days I go dex build if I want to be dps I go str. As far as a formula, I'm just not that smart, but there is a clear difference between the 2 builds.
Re: Dex based abils
#4so what skills does dex influence again?
Nerfed Mage ~140
Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

Re: Dex based abils
#5Sharp shot, light heal, barbed shot, entangle...
I don't have def spikes
Entangle success is based on the number of points you have in it (to lvl of mob), just like bolas, and I don't see how dex fits in.
Sharp shot, with a lot of dex, doesn't really hit much higher than my regular hits.
Barbed shot - I don't have many points in this, as DOT skills aren't usually very useful in solo leveling (if I don't kill them quickly, I will die)
So, at this time, it feels like the only reason to have dex is for light heal, which is extremely useful, but maybe I wouldn't need to heal as often if my str were higher, and I killed faster - or if I put those points into vitality.
I don't build for pvp (I am horrible at pvp), and other than leveling, I prefer my builds to be the best for group killing bosses, but I don't really want my ranger to be a Druid who can fight back. :)

Re: Dex based abils
#6As support ranger with 450 dex my light heal is 955 , my sharp does 1.5 times my regular shots and spike damage is 100+ , dex is key to being a balanced ranger. But to be fair almost any build works with ranger.
Re: Dex based abils
#7OMG!
I think that at 955 it should be called "awesome friggin heal"
With all of that dex, do you feel your auto attack numbers are still useful, Or do you focus on skills to the point that auto doesn't matter?

Re: Dex based abils
#8With the big heal I am wearing light heal rings and light heal bracelet , for pure dps it's all about gear in my opinion. If I switch gear to go for dps my heal drops to around 675 , still useful but not a 1k heal. Yes dps is still very good with auto shots even when wearing all healing gear , but of course if it's a FFA or someone trying to ks I use equipment to boost my damage, attack already being quite high due to the dex. I think I get my damage to close to 1300 with gear i think like 1260 or so , this would be much higher if I was str based and not dex.
In no way can ranger attack skills dominate our auto dps , even being dex based.

Re: Dex based abils
#9im currently 135 and my stats are 100str 560dex(w/ diamond set except haste gloves and gold ice quiver) 10 focus and 150 vit, my heal is 623 and i dont have any light heal rings and my spikes does 80 at the most on lava fields and my bolas is for 110 bosses but i only use it for bosses and i have royal bolas ring in case i have to use on 110+ bosses, for me dex does really well for ranger even with only 100 str my dps is not that bad cuz even i do 556 auto damage at the most and i dont miss that much and my spikes and 1313 dmg sharp helps a lot too, so if u r str built u need to have radiant willow or some dex or it will be difficult to hit

Re: Dex based abils
#10Tyvm for the info.
My ranger is not my main, and I am in the clan 2nd or 3rd most likely to kill the big drags on our server, so it may be a while before I am wearing the drops... But I now have something to strive for.
I truly appreciate the replies!
