Has anyone tried out Grasping Roots post update?

#1
Ok I tried to search so apologies if this has been bought up already

I'm one of those ppl that can double log, so I decided that I'd try lvl another Druid to use so I can double heal. This was months ago... I started training her again this week and she's now lvl 55 or something.

ANYWAY my thoughts were that I could lvl her up to some kind of legit lvl... Maybe 80? And try using her as an option for helping on the "proper" otherworld bosses. To do this my plan was probably to max out just Natures Touch, Meditate (less lux required) and Grasping Roots... This being used as an alternative to the rangers bolas. I actually have never used roots on my main, I always favored auto atk dps... And IMO plugging a lot of points into roots on your main Druid can be viewed as a waste. So in my little head having a lowish lvl Druid alt with roots might be a good thing.

Plus then I get to use my Icelord Staff (yes I know it sucks for everything Druid, but I like it... Ok?)

So the point of this rambling idiotic post is... Have you explored using grasping roots on bosses like the swamplord, woodcrown, even grommak or pyrus?

Was it effective like the bolas trick?

And was it better or worse than just tanking it?

Thanks. Looking forward to two major replies by teaweasel and caliban.

I tried out Grasping Roots for a while after Update 3. For leveling I found it just slowed me down because I kill enemies a lot quicker when I also use Storm Touch and auto attack. Plus the energy cost is really high with a high level roots, and I set mine to root up to level 130 enemies.

Against OW bosses it was a lot less helpful than I had hoped. When a boss is bolased the tank can kite and the boss will cast the occasional skill, but mostly not auto attack because he is out of range of the tank who has aggro. When bosses were rooted and the tank was out of auto attack range, the boss just turned to Rogues and other Warriors and killed them with auto attacks instead.

There were a few instances when I grouped only with range fighters, and having the bosses rooted was a great boon when it actually landed. Unfortunately it was evaded too often for it to be a reliable means of controlling the fight.

I really love PvP in this and other games, and Grasping Roots was a cool skill to have when fighting Rogues, Warriors, and other Druids. It was most useful, however, when fighting Rangers. If they bolased me I could keep them rooted for most of the duration of the bolas so that they could not kite.

This is my opinion based on my experience with the skill after Update 3. I was quite disappointed because I used the skill often before the Update and wanted to keep it in my arsenal, but at this point I just don't find it as useful as I did before. At a higher level I may add it again, because I love PvP so much, but for now my build is focused on helping the clan with bosses and squeezing in some grinding when I can.

i find grasping roots useless.. i cant do melee and storms touch on it. i have two energy regens so i can afford
wards and natures embrace as our buffs before we attack.
dont use grasping roots. its a useless skill unless in boss fights
I'm sorry howard but you aren't even lvl 80 yet. Your experience isnt valid for this conversation. Plus I don't think you read the initial post. At all. I think you only read the title.
