Re: The statistics show: Mages half as likley to level

#31
As far as mages are concerned, it looks like a bunch of people made one to try out after last update, but hit lvl 20 and went back to thier other classes

It looks like people want to play mages, but are thwarted by the bad mechanics.

My thought is its because of the low auto attack damage, and the large amount of time to regen energy between mobs while leveling.

Can anyone who stopped playing their mage around lvl 20 chime in on this?
Nerfed Mage ~140
Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

Yea I subtracted instead of divided. I fixed the description.
we can't tell if people quit playing before or after update 3. And with the existence of elixers we can't even say those over 100 were before update because I know of a few folks that started post update and are very high level.

All we can say is that warriors become more popular as they level up and mages become less popular as they level up.
Also Druids become more popular but at the high end they are underrepresented suggesting difficulty leveling.
Rogues and warriors seem to have it easiest at the highest levels.

Ok so analysis:

So looking at Papi's first graph, there are too many warriors at all levels compared to other classes. This shows people genuinely like warriors the most. If they just didn't change their class when they started and didn't like it they would stop playing the warrior. But it doesn't look like they do.
There are not enough mages and druids total in the game.

Rogues and Rangers look like they each have a good share of 1/5 of the whole population.

Now looking at my graph, it looks like people don't feel an incentive (good cost to benefit ratio) to level their mages. People have leveled the druids they make heavily. People also have leveled their rogues heavily (or just stopped makeing new ones, which is unlikely). Rangers and warriors are average across the board which means people feel an average interest in leveling them.
Which brings us back to this point: all other classes are better to have than a mage.

Warrior: It's alright to level, solo easily.
Benifits: Tanking.
Rouge: Also good to level, solo easily.
Benifits: DPS
Druid: Pain in the ... To level, preferably group leveling
Benefits: Healing
Ranger: Again, alright to level, people solo level it easily.
Benefits: alright DPS, alright heal. All rounder class.
Mage: pain in the ... To level, what with energy costs and regen.
Benefits: Cloak, Energy healer.

Now,
Warrior-You want to level that warrior because of the ability to tank. Having a good tank means being able to kill bosses easier
Rouge-you want to level it because of the DPS it offers. Means you can kill mobs faster and keep the kill to your group.
Druid-even though it's tough to level, the rewards are sweet. Immense heals and buffs make it worth the while.
Ranger-now I'm not familiar with this class. But from the rangers I've seen, their light heal is amazing, they dodge often, they hit hard. So again, all rounder class
Mage-it's tough to level...is it worthwhile? I'm not entirely sure anymore. I mean granted: the cloak is nice. And the sacrifice is useful, but why would I spend my time on a mage when I could use it on a rouge.

Summary
In the end, a Mage isn't entirely needed. We're not relied upon.
Take this for an example:
Sadly, i was banned from my clan. Now I really wanted back in and after discussion with a friend, she told me I should go back to my warrior instead of leveling my Mage. I asked her why, and she said warrior's can tank. Mage's aren't needed.
So unhappily I go.
Sooo yeah.

Also we can see sheer percentages of the classes at a given level in the first graph.

I agree.

Ouch well if you want to take drastic measures do this:

use a book of rebirth and alt and max lure of assasin and soldiers.

Then tell your leader you are going full support and follow them around a bit while they are leveling and cast lures.

That should show them that mages can be useful.

But I'm not sure how many people would want to play a castrated (cannot solo at all) mage like that.

But that is what I am going to do, so ya. :(

Yeah... no :P
Support mage doesn't make sense to me. I'm level 97 warrior, when I reach 100, chief said I can come back in :P

support mages are epic, a properly built one can almost half the time it takes to kill bosses
The only problem with a support Mage is the lack of popularity.

Druid shouts: who needs a Druid leveling partner? Lots of people respond.

Mage shouts: who needs a Mage leveling partner? Crickets. Chirp, chirp

Depends on your clan and your world in all.

My clan is pretty small, yet we always have one 120+ Druid on for wyverns. If a Druid is on, then the rouges and warriors want to do wyverns, and then they call me or another support Mage because of lures.

Support lures can really help, they can almost reduce the time to kill a monster by half, yet if your clan or group chooses more dps then just a Mage who'll help you kill faster, that's your groups loss.

Getting to a level to actually help out with support lures are a pain. I've been playing since about Halloween, but I made my Mage after update 3. All 126 levels after the update, recieving little help from patches as they didn't give a unfathomable about mages.

As pigman said, Druids can be replaced by pots, but what can replace lures?
I will occasionly browse the forums, but for the most part im done.
